Rohan was "one of the good ones". And if we can all be honest for a second, Booty acted black alot

There were many vocal LSU fans that wanted Booty to play.

I think it had much less to do with racism than the absolute unbelievable hype Josh had in HS and when he flopped for the Marlins (many many many flop in MLB), him coming back to LSU reset the hype machine.

That said, Davey is my 2nd favorite LSU QB of all time. My #1 is Alan Risher because, well, he is. I hated when DiNArdo threw an unprepared Davey out there against Auburn in 1998 (I think) and he threw like 4 picks - because DiNArdo was a fricking idiot.

Davey was great for LSU. And he could have an off-game, Ole Miss 2001? But there would be much less complaining about 2011 QBs if Davey was our starter. There would still be some though.

Yes, he was much better than Booty (who wasn't bad, but saban cost us the 2000 Arkansas game which if we had not lost 3-14 we would have gone to the Cotton Bowl and not the Peach Bowl. Rohan was a WARRIOR! One of the best 5-QB's to ever play at LSU.

hindsight

Speaking of, we are all basing our perception of our perception of Rohan based on hindsight. He was not as beloved as he is now throughout his entire tenure here. I remember very vividly some of the same things being said about JJ now--that were said about Jamarcus--said about Rohan before his SR year.

Rohan was all about the team. Not himself - like Booty.

I guess all those LSU fans, that preferred Rohan, admired Marcus Randall, preferred Jamarcus over Flynn, must be racist now.

He and Reed beat the dogshit out of Bama in 01. They put on a clinic. I was in the houndstooth after the game and. Gump said " I wish we had a coach like Saban" lol

Plenty. Rohan started the game against Auburn (Cigar Game) and had 2 INTs. Crowd was chanting for Booty in the first quarter. Dinardo tried to appease the crowd and inserted Booty. Booty had 2 INTs too but stayed in the game. The die was cast. LSU's best game that year was the last game against Arkansas which Rohan started. He was the teams choice.

Rohan could be seen throughout the year animated on the sidelines running to the huddle when the team came to the sidelines, while Booty was aloof. Rohan was highly recruited and was from Florida.

Rohan was not supposed to be a good practice player. Saban also preferred Booty over Rohan. Booty however screwed up inj UAB, and Bama games by not following script. His improvisation cost the team. Finally in Peach Bowl, Booty started but need a Rohan substitution at half time to win the game. Booty saw the writing on the wall.

Of course, 2001 was the year LSU started its current era of success on football. Before Sugar Bowl and SEC championship, Rohan to Reed at Bama may have cemented Rohan's status with LSU fans.

Other notes:
- fans thought that Booty could be the answer at LSU. people did remember that Booty was the highest ranked QB when he committed to LSU and later signed with Marlins.
- Rohan was a favorite with the players, while Booty did not curry favor with his team mates. Booty was also older due to his stint in minor leagues

Apparently, LSU fans are only racist against quarterbacks, judging by the flawed logic in that thread.

Totally agree there, I can assure you if LSU fans were racist that stadium would be empty. Do you not realize that 80 percent of team is African American......I wouldn't give a shite personally if HB was a Marshan in a suit. I still scream and yell when he gets ball in his hands. People can like/dislike a QB based on many things, but if they are disliking him because of something he cannot control....frick em we don't need fans like that.....

It is quite interesting though...if my memory serves me right has alabama ever had a black QB?

Watch the 2000 Peach Bowl then ask this question. If this doesn't do it for you, watch the 2001 LSU/Alabama game.

But I think race does play a part. It didn't with davey b/c he didn't have a bunch of bad performances, get in legal trouble, or supplant the most efficient passer in the SEC

I would agree. I really don't think most of the negatively toward JJ has to do with race. I wanted JJ in the Game in 08 and in 09. Lee had alot of bad decisions in O8. does that make me racist.

After the way JJ started 09. I wanted JL to get a shot again. That is of course till La TEch.

But after the way JL seem to progress (little) and JJ regressed (alot) in 2010, i thought JL deserved the shot to see what he can do. Does this make me racist the other way.

2011 I thought Lee played well, I thought JJ saved the Bama game and played OK. I think if one plays bad a few series the other should be given the opportunity.

I thought Rohan was the beast at QB. I also thought Booty was good but he was no Rohan.

But in all, Most people that don't like JJ more for his performance than his race.

Funny thing in the JJ\JL threads that I have read over the last few weeks is when someone is negative or doesn't like JJ, he is a racist or it is race biased, but in turn people can be negative to JL or don't like him and it has nothing to do with Race.

The only 2 colors people should worry about is PURPLE\GOLD
