Why do coaches ever reveal their starting pitchers ahead of time?

i mean they owe the media nothing. I think even if it creates the slightest of advantages in the other team not knowing who they'll be facing why not take it? Also are there rules on announcing pitcher A as the starter and doing a fake out and using pitcher B instead.

I was just thinking the same thing. If Les were a baseball coach, we would never know until someone took the mound.

It doesn't really provide that much of an advantage. Maybe if the pitcher throws gas or has a nasty breaking pitch the other team will take batting practice working on speeding up their hands or hitting the breaking ball, but Poche doesn't present those types of issues so it doesn't really provide any advantage. Maybe they will have all their left handers throw BP today and tomorrow, but that's about it.

This isn't the "Bush League" it's the ways it's always been done

Probably doesn't make a bit of difference if a team knows or doesn't know who they're facing.

Steve Kerr just won Game 4 of the NBA Finals and he lied to the media about his lineup before the game.

it's always better to know what your up against ahead of time. no matter what it is.

It's like a professional courtesy, a baseball thing.

Lineup cards are exchanged before they have to be finalized. It just gets rid of stupid gamesmanship. Everyone is going to have an opportunity to see the other lineup card before they are handed in to the umpire. Instead of wasting a bunch of time filling out new ones at that moment, the coaches announce them ahead of time. It is similar to how, before the ebays, high school football coaches would exchange film. It makes it easier on everyone, including the coaches, makes the product better, and avoids what is ultimately a pointless wasting of time and resources.

Most certainly does.

I didn't see any benefit to PM announcing Poche over Lange. Most people assumed we would start Lange. Would've been a nice opportunity to make TCU adjust their starting lineup an hour before first pitch.

Les and Steve are first cousins.
