Why didn’t Pickett wear 5 last year?

Just curious. If the Kelly staff promised him he could wear it, why is this just being an issue now?

Because Brian Kelly ran a clown show and lied to the recruit to get him to campus.

BK decided to side with Jayden's wishes, who he had a good relationship with to be fair. Kiffin's not gonna play the politics games - only sound logical decisions from the new ball coach.

Because Kelly lied to him to get him on campus and reneged once Pickett was already enrolled. Picket then addresses the issue with Kiffin, and Kiffin chose to honor a promise made to a player on his team right now rather than cowtow to a player in the NFL he never coached. Kiffin's job is to assemble and keep the best team on the field. In the era of free agency in college football, it's probably better to keep your players happy over a guy you never coached and honestly one who hasn't gone out of his way to support the program since leaving regardless

Kelly said in a report that the staff wasn't "prepared" to honor the promise until Jayden was on-board. Shocker you make a promise to a recruit and then cannot honor it. Completely fumbled in all aspects cause they didn't even tell Pickett they had to ask Jayden to see if he could use the number.
