We're talking about ONE aspect of the game, chief. Ole miss' defense and pitching has been way below conference average.

I'd have to do deeper research, but it would surprise me if Ole Miss' pitching is below average in Bianco's tenure. Though it could be a case where they had a few memorable studs and then a lot of filler dragging them down. Because they've definitely had some studs.

FWIW, in 2012, we scored more runs than Ole Miss, had 8 less total hits than them, we had 58 more RBI as a team, we had 1 less double, we had 5 more home runs, we had slightly more total bases and the two teams had an identical OBP.

And in 2013 we were 1st or 2nd in the SEC in every major team hitting category.
Yes, we're struggling at the plate this year, but we lost the core of our lineup from last year and there are growing pains. Yes, I agree it's frustrating.

So you're saying that batting average doesn't always equate to overall run production?

Look, chief, I want a more experienced hitting coach as bad as anyone, but whining about an assistant coach leaving 5 years ago is just silly.
Goodwin left to be the assistant head coach to Rooney at their new gig. It was a promotion for him.
ETA: Correction: Goodwin's title under Rooney at UCF was "Associate Head Coach" not Assistant Head Coach.

Correct. It's easy to make bold, declarative statements before looking further into the stats. Not accusing anyone in this thread of that FWIW. And I'm not trying to make this an occasion to praise Javi and proclaim him to be a great (or even necessarily good) hitting coach. I just want people to take a step and maybe look deeper into the stats before ripping the guy and dragging him through the mud. He's a human being too.

Not whining about it, just asking why he was let go? I mean, he had some pretty good years here.

That makes more sense of him leaving then. I guess Paul didn't feel he was that valuable to promote.
Still questioning why PM didn't hire a hitting coach with more experience.

One thing to consider before actually getting rid of Javi is whether or not he has value as a recruiter, because in that regard, I think he is an incredibly valuable asset to the program.

Fair enough. But, I do believe that he hasn't performed well enough yet to not get criticism.
He was way under-qualified for the job. There's no question about it. Does that mean he can't be a great head coach or hitting coach one day? No. But, it sucks a major program like LSU (arguably the best program in NCAA baseball) has to suffer growing pains from a coach. That's like KU hiring an assistant basketball coach who's only experience is playing for ND and volunteer coaching.

LSU should be able to recruit itself. Not saying that recruiting effort isn't needed, just saying that you need only a competent recruiter, not necessarily a recruiting god.
THe biggest asset as far as recruiting goes, is having a coach that can determine who will make it to campus. (See Mike Bianco signing guys like Stryker Trahan and Gavin Cecchini. No way those guys were stepping foot in college.)

Sure. Never said he was immune to criticism.

Name a single program that wouldn't have a drop-off after losing Katz, Rhymes and JaCoCo.

There are other stats besides BA.

why he was let go?
Are you under the impression Mainieri encouraged him to leave or fired him? That's just wrong if you do but you keep using the term "let go" like Goodwin wanted to stay but wasn't allowed to do so.

I'm not saying there wouldn't be. Still doesn't mean that LSU isn't suffering from Javi's lack of experience. We've had more years like 2014 at the plate than 2009/2013 at the plate.

Of course, and I agree. BA is just easiest to find and compare the way college baseball teams keep their stats.

Bad terms. My fault. I mean that more in the sense that we let him walk to UCF without upping his current offer here from what I can gather.
