well just about everyone will agree on that

That is a bit different than implying no QBs play good their first year starting and Colt McCoy wasn't good his first year starting.

Lee will surpass Hodson when comparing first years, completions and touchdowns. (int's as well )

Everyone is on high expectation alert since winning the national champiionship last year. people need to understand that it is a rebuilding year for us and we are gong to have bumps and bruises along the way. Lee will be one hell of a quaterback in the years to come and everyone will forget his freshman campaign.

You can't compare stats from those two teams on equal terms.

Well it seems many posters here think Lee should have come out of the gate winning another NC. Booing him or posting one on the MANY negative comments on this board only hurts his confidence and thus could hurt LSU as a team.

You could add Peyton Manning and a few others.
That is still a pretty short list. Fact is though Lee is all we have and without him we would probably have a losing season.

If there is one thing to not be worried about with JLee its the kids confidence. Most guys would have given up after the season he's had, but instead he leads us on a 28 point comeback.

McCoy has been pretty average every year he's played except this year.

If you call 2500 yds and 29 TDs average, I'll take average all day with Lee

If the original poster's point was, Jarret Lee's doing about as well as one could expect for a first year redshirt freshman QB, he should have worded it differently.

He is.

A few, who have been listed, have done better than expected, though.

Ergo, his point, as worded, was rather silly.

McCoy did ok as a freshman because he came in and got mop up duty after VY would put games away. McCoy had a bad year his soph year to the point that many TX fans were calling for John Chiles at the begining of last year. (Think people calling for RS next year at LSU.)

Peyton was a decent QB for Tenn his freshman year, but not great. He had 6 picks and 11 TD's after the starters got hurt.

Eli Manning and Drew Brees were the best freshman QB's I ever saw play.

A lot of it has to do with 3 key factors:

the timing of the RP's departure really shortened his preparation cycle "May 2, 2008"

our offense is pretty intricate
...much more than OSU for instance.

less HS experience than some of the others,
but LSU knew that going in.
