We are pretty predictable

But we're so efficient at what we do, it doesn't really matter

We kept running inside and passing outside, when we should have been doing just the opposite--running outside and passing over the middle behind the LBs.

It was frustrating, but I think it basically boiled down to Miles being conservative while beating the crap out of a lesser opponent on the road.

I dont care where we run the ball.
However it does seem futile to try to run the ball betweeen the tackles when the defense has 8-9 guys up there daring you to do it.

so has every one of our opponents so far. they have stuffed a lot of them too. the problem, from their defense's prospective, is when we fake that play and run a perimeter play, it is often wide open. ditto with some pass plays. they are getting "lulled" into cheating to the middle. also, as has been stated, we have beat up the teams we have played so far due to their lack of DL depth. however, bama has that depth also.

We could've run outside to the left all day. UT's outside containment was horrible.

We had a big gain every single time we ran outside against Tennessee btw. The problem is we only did it about 3 times.

We also never ran crossing routes behind the LBs (EVERYTHING in the passing game was to the outside), so if you're Tennessee, why stop running straight up into the line to stop the rush?

I think you'll see more Shep/Ford running to the outside against Bama

and also play action using the toss to Ware as the fake

Well, we will have to change it up against Bama. They're so stout in the middle with their LBs, it's gonna be pretty damn hard to keep pounding it against them.

I'm sure we'll come up with something though

This is the reason why Les is giving JJ so much of game time. He knows JJ will be the X-factor in that matchup. If Bama stops the run and Lee is having a bad day put JJ in and make it a 11-on-11 game.

And I really really hope PJ will be fit for that game. Their NT on TBob is a nightmarish matchup.

I'm not so sure about that. I'll prob put this in its own thread, but we've been pretty good pounding it at them the past few yrs. in fact, our Bama game plans have looked kinda similar to what we've been doing this yr on an every game basis.

not saying there won't be any outside running, QB runs, other wrinkles (more 1st down passing is my bet), etc., but the pound the rock philosophy has actually done better against some stout Bama defenses than I think ppl realize.

It seems like it would be a good idea to have at least one or two other running options besides the up the middle routine

do you think they don't?

Yep, but that's probably why it's been so effective when we do break tendency by running outside or throwing off of play action.

As for the "but it won't work against Bama" line....well, no shite. Nothing we do against them, running outside, inside, nor passing is going to be as easy against them as it has been against other teams. The reason is because they're really f'in good, not because we didn't do it X number of times against Tennessee or Kentucky in October.

Exactly what I am saying, but I see the method to his madness... we will do it while we can get away with it, save the rest for Bama, if we need it... I am reasonably sure we will need some options on Nov. 5th. Also, as I have said before, CLM keeps his cards close, not showing anymore than necceasary... saving it till we need it.. Thats the advantage of playing conservative

WEAR EM OUT..that's why by the 4th qrt. majority of teams can't stop the run..YOU CONTROL THE CLOCK, THEREFORE YOU CONTROL THE GAME..win.win..

We will take what the defense give us. So far it's been between the tackles a lot, but we've had success to the outside and also with bouncing runs outside that were intended to go up the middle.

Our running backs just need a little daylight and it doesn't matter where the hole is in my mind as long as it yields positive yardage.

We'll run for a bunch against Aubey with Fairley gone.

You know, now that I think about it

I remember chuck Scott hashing them pretty good in 08 and having success in 09 before getting hurt. But, this is their best set of LBs since Sabes has been there too

We'll see

and beating the crap out of them. our gameplanning has been lights out this year. know your strength...identify their weakness...attack the weakness with your strength until it collapses. "all resistance is futile."

Ford off tackle is money. It's the only ara that I disagree with our offensive playcalling We use Ware too much and we pound the middle too much.
