What's keeping them from making the jump? Money?
Largely that especially given the current economy and State budget status, but a decent regional conference say of several Non-BCS Texas and Louisiana teams would help offset a lot of that with lowered travel costs and bigger draws due to rivalries and ease of travel for fans to away games.
Other is reality that by in large bigger money in FBS is only found in BCS conferences, and many Non-BCS FBS teams lose tons of money even on bowl games. Also have tons of extra scholarships in revenue draining sports, especially with Title IX as its currently enforced, that will require extra funding.
Why give up being a larger fish in a small pond in order to become a little fish in an ocean and become a rent a win team like UNT and University of Western Kentucky?
It will really be hard for any team outside of say a Montana (no in state competition at FBS level and little regional competition along with large attendance) to successfully make the jump from FCS and FBS these days and not struggle for awhile.
The funny thing is that McNeese is one of, if not the only, FBS (formerly Div 1A) teams to have moved down in classification (currently FCS formerly Div 1AA) without dropping football entirely.

because there is not ONE mcneese player that could start on LSU's team
I bet their qb could. As long as he's worse than JL

I seriously doubt LSU is looking part McNeese. Having said this and no disrespect intended toward the Cowboys we should win handily.

If this tells you anything Southeastern scheduled them for Homecoming.
Homecoming is usually a conference game for Southland Conference teams. This doesn't mean anything.

McNeese's Senior TE Clark I think could at least play for LSU, though it seems ages(2007) since the TE was relevant in LSU offense. McNeese QB Will Briscoe from Central could become a really good QB assuming he heals properly from his injuries. And I think both Bronson brothers (Former McNeese Cowboy and SF 49er Safety Zack Bronson's nephews) would do really well under Chavis in his Defense.

Are you a female? In a sorority or fraternity?

Damn, was I wrong.
I originally thought you were a girl I knew that went to med school in Shreveport. What graduate program are you in at LSU?

because we're supposed to.

There is a reason you play the game. Just ask Virginia Tech after they played James Madison.
Yes, but JMU is a solid squad. McNeese is pretty raw. A top FCS team can legitimately play with an SEC school (basically just like Vandy) but McNeese isn't in that category this year, at least partly due to injuries.
It's possible LSU will fail to score 30 or 40 but McNeese will have a hard time mounting any threats at all.

Bottom line: Mcneese will get pummeled. We McNeese fans know it, LSU fans know it, the whole damn world knows it. I'm ok with it. The reason why so many McNeese fans are going is 1. experience (I never really watched LSU up until this week. I saw some youtube videos and you all do know how to put on a show) and 2. because McNeese fans want to believe that their team can score on LSU and/or keep it close even though most know deep down that it's likely NOT going to happen. Trust me, if McNeese gets blown out 55-0, our fans will be upset. We shouldn't be, but we will be.

We should seriously have no problem here. Our talent level is way way above McNeese and they are in a rebuilding year with a lot of injuries. If McNeese were 5-0 with a bunch of seniors and healthy then maybe we would need to focus but this game shouldn't be close after first quarter.

Do we have the talent to completely dismantle McNeese? Yes. Will we do it? Who knows. We should have dismantled LA Tech last year and it didn't happen.
There is a reason you play the game. Just ask Virginia Tech after they played James Madison.
And LaTech last year would hang 40 on this year's McNeese State. They might not even have their starting QB.
