Indisputably, I repeat, indisputably, the greatest athlete in the history of LSU sports is the one and the only Pistol Pete Maravich. Keep in mind that he remains college basketball's all-time leading scorer. He scored 3,667 points during his three seasons at LSU, where he averaged more than 44 points per game from 1968-1970. That's a 38 year-old record, and it was established prior to the establishment of a 3 point line.
And, what a joy he was to watch play. With all due respect, he'd be better compared to Nureyev or Baryshnikov than anyone else mentioned on this thread. And it's fair to say that he could make a night at the old cow palace in Baton Rouge seem no different from a night at the Metropolitan Opera House in Manhattan!
And, we were so lucky to have him at LSU!

Okay... the topic was ONE player, any sport, so I have to go with Don Redden, because he was the highest quality human being I've ever personally known...
if we get to go on into multiple players, positions, and sports, I'd have to add
Jacob Hester-- heart of gold
and currently playing would be Micah Gibbs-- He had a great year, is representing us on an international scale, and back for another great run next year. We are already looking in planning our summer trip to Omaha next year!

Glen Dorsey for all time. Before him I would've had to say Darrel Mitchell or Ronald Dupree. Both played four years of basketball and I never saw them take one play off.

I always liked watching Vernell Singleton play with that big Band-Aid on his forehead. As a little kid I thought that was cool.
you must not have watched many games B/c he wore the band-Aid on his arm.
