Zero exceeded my expectation in that he was a 10-25 coach in the SEC before LSU. I expected Belk and Indy bowl appearances by now.
Zero is not a Les upgrade...
Les never lost to Troy or A$M. Les never lost to Miss St by 30.
Les has two SEC championships, 3 SEC WEst championships and a NC. Zero has nothing like that.

I don't need a decisive victory. Just a victory.

2) A SEC Championship
3) A National Championship
This stuff for sure needs to be done.
All we can say now is that the current coach *may* be marginally better than Les's worst years, and that can be argued the other way.
As for the totality of their careers, it's not even close.

However it was with two losses. That will never happen again. Just a weird perfect storm of a few teams blowing it the final weekend.
We get hung up on the 2 loses but the “perfect storm” of teams blowing it and “backing” in happens. Not quite the same way but to win his only title Spurrier needed inranked Texas to beat 2x defending NC Nebraska in the BigXII CG and Arizona St to lose the Rose Bowl to clear a path. Of course Saban needed Ok St

2001 was just as crazy for Nebraska to get in but no one remembers because Miami won easy, but Les played a part in knocking off OU

Does this mean We can finally put the sane expectations Les had, on O? Or is that still unfair?
Posted on 4/30/19 at 10:27 am to radicalizedtigah
It's too early to say. Les, for all his faults, took the Tigers to 3 SEC Championship games and 2 National Title games. If those are the expectations, O hasn't exceeded them yet. But recruiting is going well.

this is a fact. Can you admit that things are improving for the football program?

Huh? Orgeron is putting up the same numbers that post-1/9/12 Les did.
Pre-1/9/12 Les kicks the shite out of Orgeron right now.
its AMAZING that people have forgotten(accidentally or intentionally) what Les was doing in his last 5 years.

Improving how?
Recruiting wise? O isn't performing as well as Miles.
Offensively? The offense is equal or worse.
Record-wise? No better than Miles.
Beating Bama? LOL

Worse SEC record year over year. Losing to all the best coaches in the conference last year except for Smart.

O = upgrade from 2012-2016 LM
O not upgrade over 2005-2011 LM
2012-2015 Les - 72% win pct (*counting McNeese as a win)
2016-2018 O - 73% win pct
Looks about the same to me...the same as the guy we just fired in 2016 for underachieving.
What am i missing? better optics maybe?

So you think comparing les last 5 to Os first 3 is a fair comparison.
Considering you are trying to tout that O's recruiting is improving on Les' recruiting, what else would you have us compare?
I'll do it for you:
Miles' last three class ranks: 2, 5, 2
O's last three class ranks: 5, 15, 7
Which ranks are better?

Les wouldn’t have sniffed another 10 win season at LSU with the offense he was running.

Do yall actually think before you post? Les' last full season was a 10 win season if not for a rain out game.

“ improving how”
35 games post miles the offense and defense are putting up worse numbers. 5-3 the SEC is exactly where we were in 2015. In 2015 we finished 9-3 in a 12 game season and in 2018 we finished 10-3 in a 13 game season. Our three games versus Bama have been miss matches to the tune of 63-10 and LSU hasn’t managed one lead in 3 games.
I don’t think I’m being too picky when I say I expected more three years after a coaching change. Hopefully, this season is set up for a significant change both in our SEC record and in the competitive nature of the Bama game.

Frankly AN IMPROVEMENT ???
time will tell, but I was ready for a change PERIOD.
Ever since the incredible display of arrogance and stubbornness at the NC game....I wanted MILES gone.
Not to mention the downward trajectory....MILES used LSU while resting on his NC glory. No longer had the desire or energy

No one has forgotten, that’s why pretty much all agree it was time for Les to go.
But that’s not what this post is about. The premise is that he’s an upgrade over Les, if all we’re aiming for is slightly better than Les’ worst seasons, then clearly the bar has been lowered.
He is doing some positive things, hires on the offensive staff, increasing the number of analysts, recruiting does appear to be improving from more recent classes so there is reason for optimism but to be an upgrade he has to top Les’ best not his worst years

Sure, improving from the state that he put us in.
If we're talking improving relative to the state of affairs under the last coach, then that's up for debate without any hardware. Win the SEC and it won't be up for debate.

And we're not even close to that...
By no measurable statistic has O done anything better than Les at any point.

Les was less than one second away from "sniffing" a 10 win season in 2016. Beat Auburn and that's automatically 9 wins in a 12 game season (including a cancelled game). Maybe that UF game is different.
I'm not going to degrade O just to overestimate an ex coach, because I want any LSU coach to kick arse. But I'm also not going to ignore the opposite. Les was a great coach, and we'd be very lucky if O can match his tenure.
From reading this thread, if O's time here is exactly the same as Miles', some people would consider it significantly better. That's dumb to me.
