you do realize that the polls don't just look at W/L record when determining rankings don't you? They also take into account HOW a team won or loss among other things. They look at SOS as well also. They ended up being considered the 6th best team in the country by the people that make the polls. Same way the 4 playoff teams are picked for the playoffs are not just based off of w/l record. The ranking of college teams and who gets to play in the playoffs have always been a subjective matter. College football teams and their seasons, unlike the pros, have always been judged on a subjective bases.
