You've received a lot of down votes but I agree. Let kids have their own identity. Why should a star player want to be remembered by some previous player's number. If his jersey were to be hung in Tiger Stadium or the football op's building, wouldn't he deserve his own identity?
Give them a patch with "18" or "7" on it but let them be who they are and own their own number.
