quote:

"Changes in history usually occur after some kind of catastrophic event, It may be 9/11, which sort of changed the spirit of America relative to a catastrophic event. Pearl Harbor got us ready for World War II, or whatever, and that was a catastrophic event. And I don't think anyone in this room would have bet that Alabama could lose back-to-back games to Mississippi State or ULM, no disrespect to either one of those teams."
Probably one of the dumbest quotes ever.

which part of it isn't true? you didn't see the change of patriotism after 9-11? if you were american, it cool to openly express love for your country again.
Did the attack at Pearl Harbor not draw American into WWII?
Did you or anyone else think that a bad MSU team or ULM upset Alabama?
Did Alabama not change for the better the nest season after those losses?

Ummm, comparing football to national tragedies where hundreds of Americans were killed. Really?

It wasn't the validity of the statements but the juxtaposition of football and national tragedies that make it, if not dumb, at least inappropriate.

He did go a little over dramatic on that one.

Well, to be fair, football is more important to Saban than world events that affected millions of people so there was nothing wrong with that quote in his mind.

Here's your sign.

Yes. All of those reactions to said events were true. But saying that in reference to a football game/program is absurd and asinine. As is you defending Saban's quote.

Saban's personality is such that he looks at all things and people on a business level. He may be privately a compassionate, caring man, but if so, is is the greatest at turning it off at work than anyone that has ever lived. He has the sniper mentality in that his method is necessary and everything that happens, just happens. He looks at those events as challenges, no different than the challenges in life, or football/business. With that said, he is about as trustworthy and empathetic as a pet Cotton Mouth. You may have it in a jar, have given it a name, and feed it, but it is still a predator that will kill you and not feel an ounce of remorse. I'd rather have CLM, who can be a good guy and a winner at the same time.
