All the anecdotes in the world about ULM doing this and La Tech doing that or last summer at band camp, still do not explain the up side for LSU in playing such minor league teams.

Any team with "Louisiana" as part of the school name. Any team not in Division I. A couple of cupcakes is fine--why put ourselves at a competitive disadvantage versus other top programs that schedule one or two walkovers--but 8 conference games and 4 yawners isn't the way to go. Apart from hurting SOS, it hurts the development of the team and creates too big a disparity from one week to the next when you go from ULL to, for example, Florida.

I agree with all of you concerning "cupcakes"; however, those are the only schools who will "play for pay" without us having to guarantee a home and away series.
The entire athetic department's budget is based on 7 or 8 home football games. If we were to play 4 decent opponents in those 4 non-conference games, we would more than likely have to play a "home and away" series to schedule those oponents. By doing this, we could only average 6 home games per year which of course equals less money for the athletic department. I don't see the athletic department doing anything that would earn them less money.
All that being said, I'd love to see 2 quality out of conference games per year (1 home and 1 away) with other BCS schools and only 2 "play for pay" games. By doing this, we could schedule 7 home games every year - (4 conference, 1 BCS opponent, and 2 cupcakes)

Any of the Louisiana little league schools, such as La Tech, ULL, ULM, Tulane, Southern, Grambling etc.
Playing any of them is the footbal equivalent of a "mercy f*ck". It doesn't do anything to enhance our reputation and there's always the risk of catching a VD

southern, ULL, McNEese, NWSTERn... Grambling.. SLU... or ULM...
IF we are going to play a state school... play La Tech..
IF we are going to play a state school... play La Tech..
