Eddie Kennison

Gaynell Tinsley.
First All American end.
Led Tigers to two SEC championships, and two Sugar Bowls and No.2 national ranking.
As a pro tied the legendary Hutson for most receptions.
First Tiger in the College Football Hall of Fame.

Probably also the greatest Defensive End at LSU - Trindon Holliday

Not even a mention of Devery Henderson?
ETA: I did see a mention a few posts earlier

I don’t think the answer is “earliest great WR you can remember”
It has to be “guy that launched the generation”
And WRU has much more to do with NFL success. So Josh Reed isn’t it IMO.
Maybe Clayton or Bowe. But honestly no one was suggesting we were “WRU” until Odell and Juice

It’s Dwayne bowe because he had success in college and pro. WRU means you make it to the league then you massacre

Reed Myers Clayton Henderson those were some outstanding years
Definitely a good group. Fast forward to 2006 and you had Bowe, Davis, Doucet and a young LaFell. Set a new standard.

1 or 2 doesn’t get you that moniker.
you have to have a string of them.
so it started before them, and they were the era that made it obvious that it wasn’t just a blip.
Kennison was a 1st round pick and still in the league when Reed went in round 2.
then Clayton, Bowe, Buster Davis all went in first round.
LaFell was a 3rd rounder, but was having his best year as a pro and won a Super Bowl in Beckham and Landry’s rookie year.
so by time Beckham and Landry broke loose, it was a pretty good WR run by LSU

But if we are talking modern LSU football, it was probably Dwayne Bowe that started the trend of ELITE LSU receivers.
Before that, sure there was an occasional Carlos Carson, Josh Reed or Michael Clayton.
You say that like Reed, Clayton and Bowe didn’t follow each other, and somewhat overlap.
Clayton was WR2 to Reed in 01, then WR1 in 03 when Bowe was a freshman. Bowe then became WR1 in 04 (essentially, stats wise he and Buster may have been a toss up and the 04 passing game was ehhh … somewhat inconsistent).

I believe OBJ put us in the spotlight we are enjoying. A true celebrity in his better days, and exceptionally talented.

He and Jarvis being fun to watch at LSU, and having that translate to the NFL for a few strong seasons set it off.
