I'm not a legit old timer so I'll defer to those that have seen earlier punters. Brad Wing was the first time I ever considered a punter to be a weapon. He consistently flipped the field position.

My heart says Donnie, my head says John Adams. Avg 42 yards a punt in 1978. Coach Mac called him "Thunderfoot"

Brad Wing. Maybe Jones was a little better, on average, but when it mattered most, Wing flipped the field against Bama in the GOTC.
