I'm just saying, I don't ever see too many coats or blazers at Ole miss games. Ties, slacks, and dress shirts are everywhere, but coats and blazers aren't too common.
Fact. The only folks who wear coats anymore are pledges and the over 50 crowd. The lady telling him he needed to wear a coat or no ticket to the game was bitch. frick her.
Look, the bottom line for LSU/Ole Miss in the Grove is attitude. Yes, drunk, idiot Ole Miss students are just itching for a reason to frick with LSU fans. Don't give them one. Stay away from the idiots who are falling down drunk, chasing you through the Grove chanting stupid shite. Hang out with those of us who are normal, accommodating, good natured folks.
Same thing applies on LSU's campus. Don't start shite, won't be shite. When I tailgate at LSU, I don't frick with students. I just have a good time, smiling and introduce myself around. Most people are there to have fun. You stick with them and shite works out. Same thing in the Grove. If you find that everyone treats you like shite in the Grove, maybe it's because you got attitude. Just sayin.

Ok this is my thread:
I am a Baton Rouge native and die hard LSU fan that attended Ole Miss. I graduated last year after 5 full long years
Ole Miss games are awesome, but you have to know what to do. The Grove is overrated, but it's hard not to be when people say it's the "best tailgating EVER!" It's still pretty awesome. Get there early.
-Drink liquor and if you have an ice chest with beer, put a rinky dink $3 pad lock system on it. You don't even have to lock it, just look like you can. The cops pour people's beer out that isn't secure to stop underage kids from stealing beer. Stupid fricking rule, but hey deal with it.
-Girls are fine as frick. Anyone who says differently is just biased and/or jealous. It's like the reverse of Ole Miss fans saying our football team isn't that good.
-Bars close at 1 on Thursday and Friday nights and 12 other nights. Probably stay open till 1 on Saturday because of kickoff time.
-Library is the main popular bar but is expensive and extremely crowded. There are about 15 bars on the square and there is a little bit of something for everyone.
-Football stadium is as peewee as it comes and the fans are out of it by the 2nd quarter, but can you blame them? The facilities are nice though and they have amazing BBQ nachos at the concession stand. (messy though)
-DON'T DRINK AND DRIVE. PERIOD. There are tons of cab companies. RockStar cabs are my favorite as they are all themed and pretty cheap (A-Team van, redneck limo, etc.)
-Cops are bad if you are obnoxious. Just the way it is. Stay in a group and don't piss in public.
-The food at the tailgates is usually cold chicken fingers glamoured up with a chandelier in a tent, but the atmosphere is great if you find the right place to be. The concentration of tents is pretty cool, especially when almost is competitive (not this year).
-Hotel situation is abysmal mainly due to the fact they can't fill them other than football season. Days Inn, Hampton Inn, Downtown Inn, and maybe a couple others. Probably all full. Batesville is about 20 minutes away and has plenty of places.
-I'll add more as I think of it.

Oh and I'll be there this weekend and the LSU weekend
The fans have some misguided sense of excellence in athletics passed down from their grandparents from the 60's.
Oh, and the food is actually pretty amazing:
-City Grocery
-Boure
-Big Bad Breakfast
-Waltz
-208
-Palmer's
-etc.
There is an extremely inordinate amount of great restaurants and bars for such a small place. I think it's because of all the money.

Oh and a great, great music scene. The good bands go from Austin to Nola to Oxford to Athens.
Its pretty incredible. The Lyric is a great venue that has had some serious A-list music acts over the years.

Ole Piss in the Grove.... they are scared, but try to act tough. They want to have a winner, but don't, but think if they act tough you might think they are. It is so pathetic, it is ridiculous. Party and tailgate with real people, real winners, LSU fans. We were there in '03, when they actually had a slight chance with Eli. These people were so uptight it was crazy. LSU fans were walking around laughing, joking, partying, just having a great time.(confidence) The Reb fans, you could see in their faces, were so nervous and uptight, they didn't know how to act. All they could do is act tough and rude. They tought this would be intimadating Didn't work. So, stay away from the Grove...they are dilusional.

Such a dumb insult. I always stop and nicely ask, "Can I explain to you the history of that insult?" and when I say Auburn fans made it up like 4 years ago after copying the Big 12 (Nebraska) they all feel deflated and dumb.

The last time Ole Miss came to Baton Rouge I really don't remember to many incidents with y'alls fanbase. I know things are clearly different in Oxford.

Ole Miss is so deflated this year as a fanbase, that they aren't confrontational. I know all of my friends barely even watch the games on TV anymore
Most of them are hoping to get slaughtered from here on out so Nutt is canned.

Been there a couple times and it is OK...not all that. Just a bunch of wannabes. In 2003 I sat in the middle of OM fans. A few of the fans were knowledgeable of the LSU/OM tradition. One guy was a professor at the OM (so he said) and asked about our 4th down cheer and when I told him...he was like OMG the Chinese Bandits...now it makes sense. Had a buddy of mine who went with me and it was his first LSU away game. He is pretty reserved kind of guy and didn't know what to expect. We had been drinking all day duh and right when the game started I went to take a leak and as I was walking down the steps of the stadium OM intercepted and I got jumped on by a bunch of excited OM fans and I took it in stride and went about my business. Well they harrassed me all the way to the bathroom and back to my seat. when I got back my buddy was like...WTF is going on. The OM fans were waving their little pom poms in his face and screaming at him. Of course they were yelling....LSU SUCKS...LSU SUCKS. Anyway, he didn't say a word but I knew he was ready to let loose. First of all he was so sick of hearing about Eli this and Eli that so when the game ended and we were walking out....OM fans remain in their seats because they were stunned, he turns around and YELLS at the top of his voice....WHO SUCKS NOW YOU SORRY BASTARDS. Well I had to pull him out and we left immediately.....LOL.

I've been 3 times. Do not believe the popular rumor that you can bring anything into the stadium in a cup. I.e. A cup full of bourbon. Not true. I know from 2009 experience.
Go to the grove. Prepare to not be impressed.
Make sure you get a picture of "2003 SEC West Champs" in the stadium.

No sticks allowed. On the back of the ticket. Keeping them from waving the Confederate Flag. Last time I went in 2009 they had the Klan rally on campus. Not sure if they have something to protest this time.

Checked the schedule and looks like LSU / Ole Miss is the best game. Will CBS pick this one up as well for 2:30 kick??

know this is a bit early, but we have tix to the Ole Piss game. I need a heads up on what to expect. Tail gate, traditions, when to be where...
I'll hang up now and just listen.
I met the most beautiful bartender in the entire universe at a small bar just behind a sprawling club called The Library. I may still be in love with her. Honestly, everything about Ole Miss and Oxford is grossly overrated, except for its women.

Because generally, when we travel, we don't start shite or display attitude on other campuses. It's a respect thing.
quote:
I know things are clearly different in Oxford.
That's because if you're looking for trouble on an opposing teams campus, you'll find it. LSU fans (a large percentage) bring attitude and a chip on their shoulder everywhere they go. Especially to "uppity Ole Miss".
For the record, I've never had trouble with LSU fans in the Grove, ever. I always invite the other teams fans to our tent when they walk by, offer them food and drink, a little football conversation, advice on restaurants, local spots, parking, etc. shite man, it's more fun that way.
However, when younger LSU fans are walking through the Grove, they routinely act more brazen, dis-respectful and inappropriate just to get a rise out of all the "preppy arse Ole Miss fans". Even my LSU family who come up for every OM/LSU game in Oxford comment that you just shouldn't act that way on the home teams campus.
Once again, if you get treated like shite in the Grove as an LSU fan, it's probably because you display your "Grove hate" on your sleeve and are looking for a reason to show off.
ETA: As an example, a good 75% of the posts in this thread are a perfect example of LSU fans getting all touchy about Ole Miss. They all contain either a blatant or thinly veiled insult about something related to the Grove, Oxford or OM fans. Now, ask yourself, if you were an OM fan on your own campus and visiting fans were acting the way posters in this thread are acting, would you be inclined to invite them to your tent and hangout, or would you be more inclined to give that LSU fan some shite right back?
