But wasn't this the game that they used a crane and hung a giant replay screen over the Southeast corner of the stadium, making it the first time they had instant replay in Tiger Stadium?
Pretty sure that was for the Notre Dame game the next season in 1984 in the daytime for ABC.

I was there. It was my freshmen year at LSU and I still remember how loud it was...probably the loudest ever from start to finish. I was at the Auburn/Earthquake game but that game was really boring until the Hodsen/Fuller TD. I recall looking at the wave going around the stadium..it was crazy..no one could stop it. Of course, i know was drunker than snot so it might be a dream..LOL

I was there. The week after the game, the Reveille wrote an article purporting to be from the future with LSU and Nebraska having joined the NFL. After the way the season went from there, it was not exactly prophetic. The Florida game hurt that team, but I think it was the Tennessee game in Knoxville that really sent that season headed south. Reggie White, then not very well known, absolutely dominated Lance Smith, an all-American candidate, and Tennessee swamped us 20-6. We pissed away the Kentucky and Ole Miss games, got outgunned by Alabama 32-26, then Mississippi State's option game netted them their only SEC win of the season in a 45-26 rout that pretty much sealed Stovall's fate. By the time we closed with a lethargic 20-7 win over Tulane (to break a 2-game losing streak to them), it was all but official that Stovall was out the door.

That was my freshman year and the first LSU victory the I saw in person. It was an awesome game and I really thought LSU had overcome the loss in the opener.
Thanks for bringing that up, it was the highlight of that season.

That's where I was - second row from the top, right under the score board.
