I think I am persuaded.

I know your words are wise, Dreaux. I noticed that matchup yesterday morning and, of course, I understand what my duty is. I will say a few nice words about them or their players this week. My prayers on game day (whatever they are worth) will be for the Rebels, as they were for the Gamecocks last week.

But, under no reasonable interpretation of the word will I be a "Fan" of Ole Miss. As it is, my heart won't be in the support of them succeeding in anything as simple as getting the lights to come on at their practice facility, or even account for all of their players at practice, let alone win a football game. Normally, I would hope they pound on each other the whole game and end in an ugly 3OT mess (in the old days a tie). However, on this occasion, I wish the Ole Miss team no specific harm.

I think Auburn is good enough to win one of their next two games,...but not both of them back to back. Therefore I hope Auburn wins this week so that they lose next week.

Not neccisarily. They have to lose again at some point.
But, right now we should pull for them to beat AU. That puts us alone at the top of the SECW.

ArKansas.

Then the SEC refs will have to be "nice" to us the rest of our games so that the SEC has at least one undefeated team. Well, nice to us against Auburn, Ole Miss and ArKansas and almost fair to us against bama.

I'm always worried about playing a team coming off of a loss. Plus it is an away game. Having said that, UF had just gotten thumped and frankly our game shouldn't have been close.

I really don't care who wins this one.

your scenario is the safest for us to win the SEC, but the worst for us to make the title game.

The examples you cited about it being a myth arent accurate. This year, there are likely to be a few undefeated teams at the years end. If that was the case in 2007, we dont go to the BCS title game.

To put it shortly, if we get our 1 loss the last week of the season, we will be ranked toward the back of all of the 1 loss teams in the human polls, with only the SECCG game left to make up ground.

with 2-3 undefeated teams possible this year, even a strong SOS wont get us un the BCSCG.

We'd be Sugar Bowl bound.

If we lose sooner than later, we'll be toward the front of the 1 loss teams in final rankings, which would make a huge difference becuase that would be all thats weighing us down becuase the computers love us.... but as you mentioed, we'd need a little help to win the west if we lose sooner than later.

Remember this. If we lose to arky and win the SEC, we dont go to the BCS. The ealier we lose, the better our chances should we win the SEC.

Bama is the only SEC team that is guaranteed a spot in the BCS should they run the table with 1 loss.

The easiest way for LSU to get there is to just not lose any.

recently, the same argument about how quite a few people were hoping Florida beat Bama, so that when we play Florida, they wouldn't be coming off a loss...

I thought that was kinda funny...

Florida lost, then we beat them in The Swamp the next week...

don't hope that Auburn beats Arky just so that they won't be coming off a loss when they play us. Hope Arkansas wins to give us the upperhand in the SEC WEst.

Arky has one loss already - to Bama. It would seem logical that we'd want Auburn to beat them; then we win @ Auburn.

That would put us up 2 over Arky, 1 over Auburn and we're going into the Bama game still undefeated.

If we lose to Bama then Auburn beats Bama....we're in.

I prefer winning out but if the above happens we have the head to head over Auburn.

I think

Edit: Essentially 2 over Auburn because with the same amount of losses - we still have the head to head.

AU. We want them undefeated for SOS reasons.

and wouldn't want to hit auburn a week after they came off a lose.

Isn't it crazy how the tone of the discourse changes with close win against Florida. I'm not decrying it, but what a difference a week makes.

For those of you assuming that a one-loss SEC team is going to jump an undefeated, I wouldn't be so sure.

At the moment, we obviously don't know what the result of our game with Auburn will be. Without that knowledge, can we really be sure what we want at this moment? I think it can only be known in retrospect.

Arky. Gives AU loss. SOS doesn't matter if we don't make the SEC CG.

We sure as hell don't want the Iron Bowl to matter to the west.

Agreed. If/When the Tigers do lose, it will be regarded by voters as Lucky Les hurtling back to earth and smashing into the ground. They can win out afterwards, but it won't matter.

I should have specified that I was referring particularly to LSU. If they lose even one game, sniffing the MNC will be just about out of the question. If that's even a realistic goal, I think this might be the year it requires an undefeated season, as unlikely as it may be for us.

We need every west team to have at least one loss. That way even if we stumble we can still go to Atlanta.

the Kool Aid is still flowing strong so most are thinking beyond ATL right now, focused more on the ranking matchup than the SEC implications.
