Whit Weeks named SEC defensive player of the week again

Whit Weeks for at least the 2nd time this season (Ole Miss game was definitely another) was named SEC defensive player of the week. Every time I see Whit Weeks almost dominate a game defensively for LSU as with OU, I think of the Chicken Littles (much of this board BTW) who acted like the world was ending when Perkins got a knee injury and ruled out for the rest of the season. I was NOT the only one who disagreed as a decent minority of this board said that LSU's defense would be better with Weeks playing more because he is a true LBer and not a tweener without a position like Perkins was. Congrats to Whit Weeks for his outstanding play this season.

Congrats to him he has made a lot of plays this year.
He does struggle against the faster players, sometimes running himself out of the play or being a step late but he’s far from alone in that regard. Hopefully a little more development will continue his ascension.

The only horrible play I remember was when he "tried to do someone else's job" {as Kelly always talks about} against SC and went inside to help on a potential tackle when LSU had the middle of the line stuffed and Rocket Sanders bounced it outside where Weeks SHOULD have stayed with outside responsibility. Sanders ran like 70 yards for a TD.
As far as "faster players", I have seen few if any that a LBer should be covering or pursuing. Jackson Arnold has decent speed and Weeks didn't have any trouble running him down. But is he as fast as a WRer...of course not but LBers aren't supposed to be. He is plenty fast to play in the NFL, continues to diagnose plays better every game, and IS the best tackler on the team.

I don't think it is a speed issue as much as it was misdiagnosing the play. LSU's LBs (and safeties) were fooled FAR too often on QB fakes and took themselves out of the play. That's why a lot of running QBs ate LSU alive. Penn seems like a really good guy, but he was fooled a ton in his career.
Weeks has good speed. So much so that I think he surprises a lot of QBs with his closing speed. Once he diagnoses the play he triggers really quickly and closes like a bat out of hell. There were multiple times this year where QBs escaped the pocket and looked to be comfortable only to suddenly have Weeks screaming in a b-line to towards them forcing a quick throw away.
