Because that would be a big NCAA violation. Scholarship reduction, players ineligible, postseason ban, and show clauses.

Lol.

All kidding aside.

NIL deals cannot be tied to a school or how much a player plays. That would be a pay to play contract and a big no no with the NCAA.

Good points. I didn't think of it from that standpoint. I still can't imagine that once a player is no longer with a team, everything is terminated. To the OPs point, it would be ridiculous to ask a player to return any money that has changed hands.

A state being able to void and alter private contracts seems like a great idea but I think I would choose to live in a different state.

NIL, no rules should be put on what anyone can make on the open market.

will these NIL deals have buyout clauses like coaches contracts.

example: we will pay you X amount to play at LSU for your 3 years. If you leave before your eligibility is up, you owe us the remainder of the contract. The new school would have to pay the buyout and the new contract for the player.

Would your current employer ask you to repay what you earned while employed if you got another job?

You misspelled "Could..." The answer is an obvious "NO".

Then you are back to schools paying athletes and the dirty laundry would be seriously out in the open. The NCAA has lost its teeth but state law would become an issue.
