but I would wager that the ones who have given the most are probably people who played on the teams years ago and have become successful in the business world afterwards. In other words, people you might not have heard of.
which is why I sort of kept it to guys who played pro ball for a while

Billy Cannon donated $5 million in $20's in a suitcase to LSU. Unfortunately this aroused suspicion and led to his arrest.
LSU, under the guidance of Gov.Edwards and his Board, wanted to do the right thing and wisely decided it would be best not to spend the money or to launder it. They retired the $20's.

Dr.Tommy Banks has offered free prostrate exams to any student on athletic scholarship.
Please don't ask me how I know.

You are exactly right. One of the biggest donors played football for LSU.

Just answer with a name, not a riddle.

Lawton.
It wasn't a riddle. The OP is looking for pro athletes, and the poster I replied to correctly pointed out that there are actually more former athletes who became successful and now contribute, than current professional athletes.

You don't know though. I have never heard one peep about Shaq giving to LSU. I haven't seen his name on any of the donation lists in the alumni magazine where I have seen my name many times and I'm not a "big" donor.
I don't think you can assume that Shaq donates. I hope he does, but I have no evidence that would suggest that he does. Since the donors who give above the minimum used to be published, I would think that any "big" donor would be easy to find, whether it's Shaq or someone else.
not everyone does things to get their name in a magazine...

I wonder how much Dr. James Andrews gives back.

I think the point he was making is that you can give $100 to the LSU Alumni Assoc. and get your name in the mag. They publish pretty much anyone that donates.Shaq's name has not appeared there but that does not mean he has not given from what I read in this thread.

There is no doubt that shaq donates money. He has his name on several different places on campus. They call Shaq and ask him if he'd like to donate the lounge, or pool, or scholarship fund, or weight room, and have it named after him. He doesn't just write checks for $100-$5,000 a year to get his PP points like the rest of us.

I did not mean to imply that anyone who donates does so for the purpose of having their name in a magazine. That is certainly not why I donate. In fact, when I started giving, I did not know that the names of donors were published. Pretty cynical of you to get that from what I said.

Not sure about pro athlete's, but my boss donated $25,000 yet my application for a payraise was denied. No raise in almost three years. I just quit. I worked my arse off for him, too.
