You don't know though. I have never heard one peep about Shaq giving to LSU. I haven't seen his name on any of the donation lists in the alumni magazine where I have seen my name many times and I'm not a "big" donor.
I don't think you can assume that Shaq donates. I hope he does, but I have no evidence that would suggest that he does. Since the donors who give above the minimum used to be published, I would think that any "big" donor would be easy to find, whether it's Shaq or someone else.

Shaq definately donates, they have an entire program within the athletic department named after him. It helps the student athletes prepare for life after college... Learned about it during Jr day.

That's really nice to know. I was not aware of it. I'm glad he donates. I wish all alumns did. I know we can't all do what Shaq can, but if every graduate gave a little, we would have an endowment as big as any and wouldn't have to worry about losing our top tier rating every time the legislature looked at cutting the LSU budget.

When I was still in school, I worked for the LSU Alumni Association, and there were a series of sizable checks written by Tommy Hodson.

Pretty sure part of Lod Cook was donated by Shaq.

Sure Dorsey hands over some
I wonder if Byrd, McDonald, Theriot give back or how much they gave back?

I have heard that Stromile Swift donated a moderate amount (probably not close to the "biggest donor" though).

Not one of the big 3 sports, but David Toms does a lot for the golf team.

physically Shaq is probably the biggest donor... but big herman johnson may also donate.
on a serious side... i always picture baseball players donating more than any other athlete... just something i think about.

Shaq has been very good about giving back through the alumni association.
Many athletes have given back to LSU, but I would wager that the ones who have given the most are probably people who played on the teams years ago and have become successful in the business world afterwards. In other words, people you might not have heard of.
When a professional athlete is young and makes the majority of his money, he's not in the giving phase of his life. He's going to use that money to set himself up for later in life, or, sadly, squander it. The people who give the most to universities are people who have made money their entire lives, and have more to give LATER, rather than EARLY in life.
For that reason, I suspect very strongly that the biggest donors from the athletics ranks are people who have been successful in ways that go beyond their salaries earned in sports.
