I keep hearing we dont have a proven this or a proven that. This is college--every year every teams has holes. florida having this many starters back with that much talent is a rarity. And it still doesnt mean championship. You cant define future teams success in college football like a science. We dont have a proven this or that i hear. By the time people on here get a proven anything, the player will have graduated already. You have to envision other things sometimes. Its Florida--these guys are kids--18-22 yrs old. Too many factors involved and too many talented teams to say anyone will be dominant. You just dont know. I do know however that lsu is easily as talented as florida. College football is about talent, leadership, passion, and coaching. We have all 4. And we are freakin loaded. We have our share of proven players and the rest are good enough to make our O and D go---realllll well.
and that...will be proven.... this year----Sometimes u have to read between the lines and not be the most nit picking/critical tiger fan u can be (just because that seems to be looked at as insightful theses days] and if you dont wear purple and gold glasses and you rip the team apart, then your just being realistic right? This team is loaded, mean, big, fast, deep, hungry and well coached.....period---Have a little faith---hell, have some optimism....it wont hurt--- its almost like our fans are so passionate, they are scared to hope for what they want for fear of it not coming true, so they pick it apart as some weird type of security in case the bad does happen? I agree its ignorant to think we will beat everyone, every year, but thinking the opposite doesnt make you wise, either.....WE ARE LSU---live it love it believe it-

not wearing purple and gold glasses doesnt make you less pessimistic.

I have said the same thing for the last 4-5 weeks. Nobody is as talented as LSU is this year and I mean nobody. It is up to the Coaches to put the talent together that will make-up the team that is best suited for LSU. If they can put the peices together we are going to have one great year. I believe they can and will and LSU is going 10-2, 11-1 or even 12-0. It is hard to beat a team twice in the same year, that would mean we would have to beat Fla. twice if we go 12-0 to play for the BCS NC but not neccessarily so for 11-1 and 10-2 although I believe we would still play Fla. for the Conference Championship and maybe the right to play for BCS NC. Either way I say

You are right, its college football and anything can happen. Florida may be as good as advertised, or they coould lose 3-4 games. I personally think if the Tigers can limit turnovers we are looking at 1-2 loss season max.

I agree and the more I think about this upcoming season and talk about it with others, the more I believe that we will do better than the so-called experts project us.

I keep thinking to the way we ended the season with the victory against GaTech. I have a good feeling about this year.

Did you see the prediction poll on this very site. Seems overwhelmingly optimistic to me.

However, lot's of optimism last year so we should not look to ourselves as fans for accurate forcasts and opinions.

while your post is very clever, you sir, qualify as a "debbie downer" (sorry, i'm old and it's an old term). I believe JacksonLSU is a lot more realistic than the crap i've heard like "it's a given we lose to UF". No team has MORE talent than us; yea some have as much. I think we have as good of a chance of winning the SEC as any other team, including Florida.

I expect us to go undefeated - but I've expected that every year since 2003. Year in and year out, our talent level is on par with any team in the country. Of course, that doesn't guarantee anything - you need good coaching, good leadership, lack of injuries, and a little luck to go all the way. USC has the best talent every year and they don't win every game, even though they SHOULD.

Is that unrealistic? Probably, but I can't imagine going into any season or game EXPECTING to lose. The coaches don't and the players certainly don't. In life, high expectations means high success. If you don't EXPECT to win, then you won't.

I'm not knocking those who are realistic and predict a loss or two or three. I realize that it's highly unlikely that we will go undefeated. But I doubt that any team ever went undefeated with the mindset that it wasn't likely or possible.

I agree Montana that the players and coaches should have that mentality of expecting to win the game, especially given that I agree our talent level is at least good enough to compete with anybody IMHO.

However, I can't approach it like that as a fan. I'd be miserable if I expected us to go undefeated every year. Heck, last year I'd have probably committed suicide.

I used to be like that - I was one of those LSU fans who had what Nick Saban called the "catastrophe syndrome" - always expecting the worst even when things were going good. It's a self-fulfilling prophecy. After so many years of crushed hopes, it was hard to feel otherwise.

But after we won the 2003 National Championship, I completely flip-flopped. I really became convinced that we were better than any other team, and should win every game.

I still feel that way. Yes, I'm very disappointed when we lose, but somehow I always still EXPECT that we will turn it around and win the rest of our games.

Maybe a few more years like 2008 will cause me to return to my old way of thinking. But for now I'm EXPECTING an undeafeated season.

I believe in my heart that if we outscore each team this year, then we have a chance to go undefeated.

Rule of Thumb - if you have no expectations, you can't be disappointed.

Oh, now I'm not like that by any means.

But I had a buddy that used to say 13-0 and MNC every year. I'm not like that either. I like to think that I'm realistic. I say we're going 9-3.

I picked the same record last year. Turned out I was overly optimistic.

It's not only about talent, that is the problem with some fans. Competative desire, breaks, schedule, injuries, coaching etc are factors that no fan really knows what a certain team in a certain year will have.

Those who only want to see the negative if you will are no better really than those who expect domination and blowouts and running up scores.

Talent gives a team a chance to be successful or very successful. Its a very very fine line between championships and barely above avg frankly and no one can "predict" how things will play out, so I don't really get why people try and do it anyway.

Football season is 3 weeks away, that's enough for me
