Where is outside containment

Retired coach here. Don’t pretend to know even a small portion of what Pelini knows, but first technique you teach def ends is to protect your outside leg and your first step is NEVER inside( we called it suckin eggs), its always outside in. Just my 2 cents.

There is too much false steps from d ends and lbs and it almost always seems they are toward middle of the formation. Way out of position. And then lbs dont have the ability to make it up.
As fans, we should feel lucky muschamp is a moron. Any competent coach would run outside a lot more against this defense. It worked early then they stopped.

Who is the very best back in the league? What other back has the size that you better wrap up? I give 2 concerns about Ole Miss because I know they will get theirs with Plummelee. He is going to Kill this team. However, I know LSU won’t score the 50 needed against Bama.

Everyone is saying this but how do we as fans know the DE’s responsibility in this scheme? Some schemes crash d ends down some string out not giving up outside. But someone isn’t playing it right, so I guess that is what matters really.

Dend101 is to set the edge and force everything inside where your friends are. This team hasn't done this for years. Their first step was to the inside turning his back on the play. We'll see much more of this going forward.

That's one of the several fundamental mistakes the D keeps making. They do sure make it easy on the opposing OL sometimes.
It's one thing to "get beat", and it's another to make a mistake.
But when you make them over and over, and on fundamental things, you have an issue.
In many of those cases both the DE and the OLB (or maybe S) all thought they were doing what they were supposed to. It's not that they were getting sucked in, or head slapped by some OT, or kicked out by some FB. Both went for the inside gap because each thought the other had containment.
I saw twice where they overwhelmed the OT, but all he did was get his head on the outside and his shoulders turned and dug his heels in after he started what he thought was going to have to be a possible reach block. Didn't even have to sustain it.
That's not getting sucked in. That's not getting blocked. That's not "getting hung up inside". That is not knowing assignments and bad communication. Even if the call from the sideline gets garbled Logan and Clark (with Stevens behind them), for example, should know somebody has the outside leg. Period. It is fundamental JV stuff.
Someobdy has to at least think to themselves, hey if he doesn't set the edge, and he doesn't set the edge, I will indeed do it myself. It shouldn't get to that point, but if all else fails somebody has to realize fundamentals and basics matter.
