Yea 42 and 41.5 is splitting hairs. I thought you said he had a 44+ inch vert, my mistake. I do think Marlons is better than 42.5 though, he really gets up there for 6-5.

Rudy Macklin and DeWayne Scales. They were freaking AMAZING!

Ronnie Henderson had some hops too. I remember hearing he had a 45 inch vertical.

I was waiting to see some Reynolds love. In addition to his dunks he could actually handle the ball and play some point. What a matchup for defenders.
Also, what an exciting time to watch the six you listed.

Bringing back Astronaut memories.
I was at LSU in ‘80 & recall Scales several times going airborne at the free throw line & throwing it down with authority.
He had a sweet turnaround jumper from the top of the key as well. When he was hot he was unstoppable as you noted no one could get up high enough to block his shot.

Lots of names of a lot of talented LSU players past and present, but I don't see CJ/Abdul-Rauf's name amongst them and it should be. I guess that's because he's more known for his great shooting, but dude had hops for his size. LSU had the alley-oop regularly designed for him in games with him getting off the ground effortlessly in dunking the ball. I wish he had more breakaway dunk opportunities.

I remember games against Kentucky where Kentucky bigs that were taking turns guarding him(Scales) would put their hands in front of his face when he did his turnaround jumpers against them to try and blind his eyesight, didn't work as he burned them greatly. Lol

5 pages and no one mentions a guy that has won slam dunk contests, Williams doesn’t get as many opportunities and is underrated.

The intro to the Dale Brown TV show back then in the early 80s ended with this shot of Scales airborne on a fast break, windmill dunk from the free throw line. He had the ball cocked so high above his head that I'm pretty certain it was on the same plane as the top of the backboard.

Scales was such a talent, I was sick when the news broke about his eligibility ending due to contact with an agent.
