Anyone know the scoop on WHY it was so short-lived? Was it ability or attitude or a combination

Sounded like the only reason he was signed was a favor to someone.

I read on a website at the time that JJ was at a 3 day workout in Tampa and got a notice to come to a court hearing on the old fight situation and Tampa just cut him that day. I believe they really didn't want to fool with it. I read the BR and NO papers, the Bleacher report, and Dandy Don everyday. It was in one of them.

JJ got cut as a part of a numbers game. He was invited to a rookie camp and actually impressed the team and they offered him a contract. Soon after, a DL tore his achilles and as a result they called a DL they cut recently and signed him back and cut JJ......

I know when I'm impressed with people, I always cut ties with them too.

Whatever dude, just explaining what happened. This is not uncommon in football. It's a numbers game. You can have 4 RB's and be impressed with them all but you are only carrying 3 so one has to go. I know this doesn't fit the narrative you want to spread so you can just ignore it continue to bash JJ......

Seems like since he was so impressive someone else would have picked him up. Since it was just a numbers game.

If he was such a talent, someone would have picked him up. Danny Woodhead did well with the Jets but they had no room on their roster. He was immediately picked up by New England when he was cut. JJ has been twiddling his thumbs since.

I don't see how JJ Could successfully find a new position. Maybe in college he could have but even then what was he built for? A skinny TE? A slow WR? He was a good runner for a QB but not shifty and not really that fast compared to WRs.

As for JR, he is doing the best. Retired And set for life and he isn't even 30 yet.

Eh...I think it was more JR proving people right. Soon as he was in the league...he lost his passion.

Don't let his NFL bust mislead you, Jamarcus Russell did amazing things behind center at LSU. When he was on his game, he was easily as good and likely better than anyone I have ever seen play quarterback at LSU. He was better than Perileaux and better than Jefferson. He got paid and threw it away but the dude had crazy abilities.
