Football isn’t life, therefore we can’t control what 18-22 year olds do. The attention spans don’t last long these days

Didn’t band used to be on the west side?

I’ll never run for office after saying this, I guess, but the biggest thing that keeps folks from staying at the game is women.
I hadn’t been to a game in ten years until last night. This belly aching about amenities or lack of upgrades since whenever is bullshite. It is so much nicer now and easier to get food and/or drink or go to the bathroom than it was even ten years ago. Having to get concessions for 6 kids didn’t even annoy me. There were 5-6 places within a two minute walk from my seats.
But, women? One could see that those leading some schmuck home by his Johnson last night take longer to get ready than time they spend actually in the stadium.
The groups leaving are typically two dudes led by two women or one dude and his woman.
If your SO is one of those women like described above, make plans to leave her at the tailgate or at home. Don’t go to the ballet with them so they don’t feel like they have to come to the game with you. It is ok to recognize that women and men can have different interests sometimes. That, or make it clear before going that you are staying until the end.
My wife started hinting to leave last night a little after halftime. No ma’am. The main event here is a football game. The kids there are making memories. Suck it up
She got over it and survived. Your old lady can too.
Old man rant over.

I'm with you brother, I don't leave before the game is over, and I mean no time left on the board, I refused to leave the "hurricane game" against Miami, 1988?, the wind and rain was so hard it was coming down sideways, and they crushed us, something like 44-3, we were wearing Hefty trash bags with head and arm holes cut out

Really doesn’t look that different than it did when I was at LSU as a student 30 years ago against a cupcake opponent, late in the game and up significantly.
Student section was always more about the pre and post-game - unless there was some shift I missed over the past quarter century.

100% on the women part.
They are a veryyy large reason for the problem and nobody really wants to admit it.
I was near the NEZ last year at kickoff, we saw a big group of sorority girls, atleast 10 of them.
I overheard one of them say, “let’s go to our seats so we can take our pictures in the stadium and then let’s leave and go to Fred’s”. Not one disagreed or chimed in that they should stay.
I wanted to roundhouse kick each of their fathers after hearing that. Why bother going in and taking up those tickets??

“The student section was packed early on and they were loud.”
I usually defend students .. but this comment is not truthful.. the frat section was completely empty until mid first quarter and emptied before half.. the students by the band are usually due hard but it emptied early second half..yall were pitiful..
But to be fair and not single out students… the lower section cleared out in second half .. I mean really cleared out.. not sure why.. nice day.. weather.. already paid to get there.. why not sit enjoy a beverage and watch your team . Even if it was a scrimmage at that point.. watch the players develop.. last night was a pitiful fanbase showing imo.. and I have been attending every game for a long time .

the band
every time the camera panned to the band a couple of them were yawning and they, in general, looked like they'd rather be somewhere else

I was right there with you. Good thing we brought plenty of bourbon.
ETA: the thing I remember about that game besides the rain, was the hurricane squad, during pre-game warmups, were grabbing their crotches at the end zone crowd while running thru the endzone...they were some thug boys

This didn’t happen. Quit lying.
Jesus you old bastards are insufferable with the constant bitching about fan attendance.
LSU packs the schedule with shitty teams. The in-stadium experience is terrible (hence all of the other old bastard threads bitching about the rap music and waiting in line to empty their colostomy bags every quarter). And LSU’s goal is to squeeze every single penny it can out of its fan base—hence Aramark concessions and $12.00 beers.
Also, the stadium holds 100,000 people now, so yes, it looks much emptier now during shitty games than it did when it only held 65,000-70,000.
I don’t blame a single person for leaving early. You want to sit through a blowout against a trash opponent and wear it like a badge of honor? Great.
The rest of us will either be at the bar or at home having a much better time.

LSU students are pathetic example of just a few thousand diehards who support athletics... a far cry from the rabid students from just a few years ago... their social time can't be interrupted by staying and supporting the football team for a couple hours of their time. They are not like the maniac students that fill the other college football stadiums across the country!

Here is a thing:
You have a limited amount of time to enjoy being a student and a fan at a game. For example: doing the dances for the first, second, and third down songs, etc. is pretty damn fun.
If you are a normal dude, you can party/socialize or slay some lovely ladies for years to come.
Don’t waste those opportunities to enjoy being a student fan at the game to chase something that will be available much longer.

Obviously left early so they could go to church in the morning.

They had to leave the stadium to get their Snapchat to work

Yeah, there's 5 mins left in the 3rd of a blowout.
Why would they stay?

You sound insufferable.
if I was your wife I'd tell you to have a good time and that I'll be out doing whatever while you continue to sit in the blowout.
This is a shock to some of you, but the kids on the field would likely leave to go to an afterparty in a blowout like this if it were allowed.
I cannot imagine being over the age of 25 and taking this as seriously as some of you. It comes of like a mental health issue.
