LSU doesn’t retire numbers anymore. A player can only have their jersey retired.

semantics

It is up to the coach’s discretion if the number can be reused. It’s clear they aren’t letting anyone wear #9 or #5

quote:

Under a provision of the LSU jersey retirement bylaws established Jan. 1, 2007, the retirement of an athlete’s jersey in a particular sport does not preclude a current student-athlete in that sport from wearing the jersey number in that or any other sport, subject to the discretion of the head coach. This provision applies only to jerseys retired after January 1, 2007. The numbers worn by Maravich, Pettit, O’Neal, Cannon and Bertman may never again be worn by future student-athletes in their respective sports.

Everyone that plays for a college team and does a good job”job” for two years does not immediately néed their number retired and a statue put up.

Honestly, there has been a lot of other individuals that have excelled at their craft.

Why does our stupid fanbase have to be so obsessed with retiring numbers? It’s a completely retarded practice with no foresight. There’s only a finite number of numbers for players to wear.

37 & 21 are “retired” for football, but players still wear them. Per new rule in 2007, it is up to the coach’s discretion if a number can still be issued

If Shedeur Sanders doesn’t have a statue, why would Burrow get one?

Maybe so, but the numbers still aren’t retired.

Nobody has wore 9 since 2019 and nobody wore 5 last year so both he and Daniels’ official jersey retirements are coming. I think LSU is gonna do Burrow within the next year or two then Daniels shortly after

I would love the statue to be Joe B sitting on bench with the big cigar. Right at entry to stadium. People would line up to be photographed sitting next to him.

Never. He could not criticize Mike the Tiger’s habitat while still at LSU. Waited until he got out of town.

That's the thing ... while I know who they are, I don't know those numbers off the top of my head or associate those numbers with the players. Numbers should only be retired for 50 years at the most.

Ask Coach Prime. He knows how to get that done.

Shedeur went 13-12 in his Colorado career and got his number retired.

Y'all are some number retiring mother f'ers. Let's pay tribute to greats without removing numbers from future players. Let's leave 20 as the only retired number. Put Burrow's name in the rafters, build the statue, etc, but leave the damn numbers alone.

Yes, they are and I hate it. Florida hasn't even retired Tebow's number last I checked.

I will never understand the obsession or want to retire more numbers.
