Rick Huckaby was a key part of that staff. Not only did Dale get Howard Carter by hiring his Redemptorist coach...Huckaby, but he also got a very good coach to help with strategy.

Does his VCU stats count? They were very good defensively.

Did you email this guy for the diagrams? You could have a real teaching moment here on the rant if you followed this through.

Great man. Produced some really good fundamentals players in early 70s.
Won state without a man over 6'.

Basketball threads on the rant usually show the true ignorance of our fan base. The good fans all are too old to read this site now

I get that. For those of us who were around during Dale Brown's glory years, we already understand the system. However the diagrams may help as visual aids when educating the remedial rantards that reside in this cesspool.

I’m betting you think that you’re an expert on the subject, huh tough guy? Dale Brown’s 1980 defense led the nation in several major categories. LSU was routinely in the upper half of the league in defensive statistics. He even beat Kentucky up at Rupp 3 years in a row. Stop talking shite about subjects you know nothing about and you won’t seem like such an idiot.

Man... that escalated quickly. BTW the college game has changed so much in the last 30 years in the largest area of that change has been defense. Good defense then is not good defense today. Maybe we can all agree on that. For starters if players from that era would defend like today's good teams their nut sacks would hang out (because of the shorts they wore).

I love Wade but... based on what?

Based on his former teams... and based on the fact that Brady was an average defensive mind.

I have liked what little I have seen from Galen Alexander. Kid looks to be a physical specimen. He could be a very solid wing player for us for 4 years.

I didn't know that. Howard Carter was one of my favorite players. I remember him being deadly on long shots from the baseline. I was in freshman English with him my 1st semester. I don't think he ever brought a book, pencil or paper, though.

I know, CSB

Thanks for the link supahtigah. I remember in 1987 was when I first remember Dale Brown talking about the freak defense. I had no idea it was so complex. I just remember them switching from basic man to box and one and triangle and two very often. They really did have a lot of success taking the one or two best scorers out of their rhythm. Guys on that team who are not household names: Darryl Joe, Bernard Woodside, Oliver Brown, would really get after their man on defense.

Mine as well. Too bad he could not stay clear of the white powder. I think he could have had a great NBA career.
