So the polls mean nothing at all? Bowl games mean nothing? What does mean something? NC and conferance titles. Anything else?
Weird how the media puts so much focus on so much that means nothing

"Bowl games are meaningless other than perception"

Perception, what else is there in College football. Other than for one team, plus maybe the 3 others that made the playoffs, perception is what it is all about, and for those 4 teams, it is still about perception.

Only certain bowls mean something. Most don’t.

The one we are in this year means something

So if you dont finish first you finish last. A top ten finish in the polls means nothing? 5 is the same as 100.

Just because you only watch or count the playoffs doesnt mean anything.

If we win this game, we won’t move more than one spot in the polls.

Tell me. Without googling. Who finished 9th, 10th, and 11th last year?

You have no clue who and neither does 99.9% of the population of football viewers.

bullshite, you ever watch espn or ever read this forum? You think LSU losing to Notre Dame meant nothing to anybody? The coaches didnt care, the players didnt care, the fans didnt care the media didnt care? Dam they all were such good actors then because they sure acted like they cared. You really are just talking out your arse arent you?

It's because people who have never net an athlete, don't know any athletes, or have any dealings with athletes, feel the need to defend whatever choices an athlete makes.

They used to be exhibitions.
They now count in ncaa records books and the stats are counted in ncaa record books. They used to not be counted and stats werent kept.

Yes there are $ there because people watch and care about those games. They also care where they finish in the polls.

Does anthing really matter in this life? I suppose it is all an illusion. You have convinced me. Nothing really matters at all.

We are born, we live, we die

Ashes to ashes dust to dust

We are just dust in the wind

….Meaningless?

Anyone who thinks fans will not be upset, the media won't bash LSU, opposing fans won't mock LSU, LSU will not drop in the preseason polls, our coaches won't be bashed for being upset by Central Florida.....hasn't been paying attention.

You need to wake up and pull your head out your a$$ if you think any bowl game is meaningless.

Now I get it
AshLSU. 'Ash'LSU. Ashes

Ash to ash dust to dust dust in the wind ash in the wind

We are but an accidental chemical reaction floating about this immense universe. We are irrellevant in the grand scheme so nothing matters.

Because fans need something to talk and read about - just like pre-season rankings.

I'm not at all convinced that a random bowl win or loss helps or hurts in any meaningful way.

Helps or hurts what? Winning certainly helps our record, while losing definitely hurts our record.

By the same token, winning helps our final ranking and losing hurts our final ranking.

You're really comparing the final season rankings to the meaningless and arbitrary preseason rankings? The final rankings are the only ones that even matter as they rank how each team in the country actually performed that year.

I wanted to thank you for getting me to that deepness. Without your mantra that "nothing matters" i wouldnt have been able to reach that chakra. You are like a dali lama guru. My dali lama guru Ash! You are the deepest.

Bowl games can have a huge effect on the way a team feels about itself. Clemson defeating LSU in the Peach Bowl certainly gave them the confidence to think of themselves as elite and helped them turn the corner to become one of the top programs. LSU defeating Miami in that 2005 Peach Bowl helped LSU maintain it's newfound belief that it belonged in the top levels of college football. It also became an end point to the dominance of Miami football teams.

Stomping Illinois and later Notre Dame in the Sugar Bowl were two other examples of how doing so boosted the confidence level of the LSU program which carried over into the following seasons. UCF defeating Auburn is another example as is Boise State beating Oklahoma. These games all had a huge effect on how these teams were viewed and treated afterwards. Meaningless? Hardly.
