in 2012, i hated Mett. He wasn't that good and he looked uncomfortable.
But in a year, he grew into a pretty great QB. Etling could too. Not to say he will. But could.

He is definitely limited but honestly I am throwing out every negative thing I think about our offensive players until I see them in a real offense, then I will decide

I crucified Marcus Randall when he was around. He was absolutely deserving of crucifixion.

He has a noodle arm, has zero accuracy on his deep ball, and holds on to the ball too long.
He moves in the pocket well and goes through reads well.
Cant argue with most of these, but why do you guys think he has a low ceiling and that he can't improve? Can certainly improve holding the ball too long, and with off-season work with receivers and putting the time in he can improve on deep ball accuracy, I don't get the low ceiling talk?

He has a limited physical skill set which is what contributes to his limited ceiling. That being said, I don't see a better option than him on the roster at the moment.

The guy is going to be a fifth year senior this year. We aren't talking about a kid who was a freshman this year.

He's an underrated QB who is a work in progress.
This is not a position where I am pessimistic, especially with this solid OC hire who can develop QBs.

DE will have more of a chance to make an NFL roster than any other QB currently on LSU's roster. I believe he had two bad games at LSU, Auburn and Bama. Auburn was under Miles so I give him a pass but the Bama game was bad. Other than that he did everything he was asked to do. He is a game manager and that is all you need to win at the college level.

Mett's deep ball was terrible in 2012.
Much worse the Etlings this year.
I thought he was avg to slightly above avg with his accuracy.
Does a great job moving around in pocket and getting all players involved in offense.
I'd like to see his avg on players getting ball on games he played... Betcha it's 5-6, maybe 7.

True but he's had different teams and an interim OC for his first start at LSU. Not really consistent coaching or a recipe for success.
He does have limited arm strength but not bad. He's accurate on short to intermediate passes when the OL gives him half way decent pass protection. He got blasted all game against Bama and our run game provided no relief. Joe Montana wouldn't have done well in the Bama game.

The majority on this board just hate everything, fact! I for one think Etling did one hell of a job! The only bad game he had was Alabama and that speaks for itself. Dude is tough as nails and a leader! If not for Fournette leaving him out to dry on that run to the pylon in the Florida game we would have won on that play alone!

He has the arm strength of a 3rd grader

Hes pretty much a better version of andrew hatch and can take some licks.

don't bother asking,
some of these people here expect shutout victories and national championships every year because they think we have better talent and facilities than everybody.

I like Etling and am glad he is here. He goes through his progressions and makes smart decisions. It is nice having a qb with the touch and accuracy needed to execute the intermediate passing game. I can live with the weaker but more accurate arm.
Fair to say that the vast majority of his problems vs. better defenses stemmed from poor o-line play.

I thought Etling played well last year and should be the 1st team QB going into spring practice. He went through progressions well, got the TEs involved, showed he could take some tough hits, and got the offense looking really good in most of the games he started. I think his arm is strong enough to succeed at this level.
If another QB passes him up between now and the start of the season, then even better because that would mean we will have a strong #1 and also an experienced backup.

We beat a bc winning Alabama team with JJ.
Was that post supposed to help your case?
