Maybe he doesn’t want to be in or pay for school anymore? I am sure he wasn’t getting a full ride and likely not offered one next year.

You can get paid more than enough to cover tuition for being student athlete now.

Young athletes all want to practice endlessly at having a family as soon as we can.
Why do you think he's ready to make it real? I don't know anything about the kid but if he's graduated why not take it easy academically and see if there is something that he can learn from the new coaches that can separate him from others in the eyes of the Scouts? In it's own way, that's planning for the future.
Worst case scenario is the signing bonus for next year would be the same as this year---though he took a chance of winning a Natty and developing into a better Pitcher than he is now and making more money this time next year.

I think getting engaged is probably a pretty good sign

He also has a child on the way. Those aren’t cheap to raise.

Yep, no kidding. That point hadn't been brought up when I tongue in cheeked the first part.
A baby on the way shines the light on preparing for the future even more brightly! In the long run if all worked out he would probably make more money in his lifetime playing professional baseball. It's still worth the sacrifice of some (and they would be regardless) lean years seeing what new coaching and tweaks might bring. And there is still the same amount of money, give or take, waiting next year if nothing much changes. I'm willing to bet the wife is on board. She'll want him to be as successful as possible too. Any bright young couple knows that having kids early is not all lollypops and giggles. I say Best Wishes to them no matter what they decide he should do.
How about finding a good NIL that he can really be active in... like something to do with his degree so that one way or another they have a little bit to sit on come this time next year.

AJ’s name, image and likeness has no value

Everyone has this idea that every college athlete will make hundreds of thousands of dollars if not millions because of NIL when in reality a very few high profile ones will and the others will receive a couple thousand dollars at most from local businesses.

Right. There is going to be very little money in baseball for most players

To think AJ Labas could pay LSU tuition with NIL money is hilarious

So players that don’t show much emotion on the mound are the ones wanting to have a family ASAP….got it.

Even Joe Burrow thinks that walk on players will be balling with this NIL deal. It’s going to be nothing different than what’s already going on with the top players getting whatever they want and everyone else getting what they can.

So... because he has a fiance he wants to quit all he has worked for? That doesn't sound right. Seems to me the kid has worked his butt off, so why would he just give it all up now?

99.9% of baseball players, at some point, have to ‘give up all you worked for’. Such is life

Why are people still arguing this (other than selfish reasons or ignorance)? AJ won’t likely get scholarship money, won’t make enough NIL to cover college, books, etc. and now has a family to support. As a LSU baseball player, he will not be able to work full time to support a family and pay for schooling that he is basically finished with. Why potentially take the GRE and grad school classes (and pay for them) when you are done with your schooling just to play one more year baseball??

I agree, such is life. I'm also curious to know where the whole "now has a family to support". I have been following AJ for quite some time and have never seen or heard of anything from AJ about him starting a family. Seems to be all rumors for no reason other than to tarnish his name.

This is common thinking among folks who haven't enjoyed competing in actual Games/Sports. The answer in all instances is: BECAUSE HE CAN! There are 32 yr old LH Relief Pitchers who've been in the Minors for 10 or 12 years without a sniff of a cup of MLB Joe. Why? BECAUSE THEY CAN! (Well, they've obviously got the financial stability to do so from somewhere else.)
Playing baseball is FUN! 99% of ya'll reading this didn't get the gift from God of being able to do something that's so much FUN at such a high level. I'm not shittin' on folks---I'm included in that 99%. And to that my friends, you can truly say: "Such is life".

WRONG! 100% of baseball players, at some point, have to 'give up all you worked for'. Same with all team sports. Some of us are just fortunate enough to still be in and around our game through Scouting, Coaching, Front Office, or commentary. 99% aren't that lucky. And just like the practice and games when we actually played, IT'S STILL FUN and you do it BECAUSE YOU CAN!!!
