What's it going to take for LSU to have a top notch media facility?

Or whatever you call it. With the secN coming, and many recruits dreaming of a life in broadcasting after football, I feel like we are behind the curve.

Obviously Texas has one. Bama has a top notch facility too. I think we need to jump the gun and invest the money.

I thought LSU's mass comm curriculum was among the best.

that's not what he's talking about.

To the OP, I would suggest writing Joe Alleva a letter about this. I'm not being a smartass, I have done it in the past and got a handwritten response addressing my questions.

Okay, I'll be the one to ask: what is a media facility exactly?

Pretty sure this is in the Cox building, but I'm honestly not sure what the hell a Media Facility is. I do know our athletes are trained on interviews, dealing with the media, etc. from word "go" when they arrive on campus throughout.

The newly renovated Eric Hill Communications Studio, coupled with individualized instruction from two of Louisiana's preeminate media educators, provides student-athletes with cutting-edge training in both fundamentals and practical experience along three broad areas: presentation skills, image, and sports-specific media knowledge. Created in through a generous gift from Mr. Eric Hill, the Studio provided a solid foundation for student-athlete education. With rapid advancements in internet & social media, the Communications Lab was moved in late 2009 to newly renovated, purpose-built facilities & outfitted with modern, high-definition equipment.

I wouldn't be investing a lot of money right now into college football. In a couple of years, it's gonna all come crashing back down to reality, due to the O'Bannion case, the move toward player payments (won't work under Title IX), the concussion controversy, and the ineptitude of the governing body (NCAA). If medical science shows, and the PC-crowd accepts (esp the libs in Washington), that CTE is an accumulative brain injury over time, there can be no rationale to put young peoples brains in jeopardy for entertainment purposes and for monetary gain by the athletic departments.

The game will soon be radically changed by new head-injury rules and new money rules, and won't be worth watching anymore.

I would be much more passionate about the question of investing money in the Sports Media right now.

In my opinion, today's Sports Media is highly politicized, just as the "regular" Media is highly politicized. If you belong to the political party that is politicizing the Media, then sure, go for it -- pour your money into it.

Also in my opinion, one of the prime positions in this world today where you might perch yourself would be a place in the Media, including the Sports Media, the higher the better, one so remote from the populace it serves that you never have to answer to that populace, because now you are ensconced in an Ivory Tower, from which you can make your pronouncements and exercise your control over that upon which you make those pronouncements.

If you want your money to go to something like this, then again, have at it. I think that the New Media, with its new Technocracy, is so out of control right now that no one knows what direction it will take. My hope is that the next generation, who seem to be escaping their parents by dropping out from them through their own involvement into the new technological gadgets, will rectify what their parents have done and restore order to their Media Establishment.
