Watching shaq and dale documentary and the crowds look like the stuff you see at Duke and North Carolina. When did this stop?

First game I went to was like 2000-2001 when they had Jabari Smith. I was 7 then so I don't remember much before that

Like all sports at every school

Win - people are interested
Lose - not interested

The extended losing at the end of dale Brown's tenure, followed up by the success of the football program and the inconsistency of the program under Brady really killed it

I never lost interest. The failure of the AD to properly prioritized the program always damped my expectations, sadly. No excuse not to make the big dance 3 of 4 years. We aren't even close. After getting kicked in the nuts over and over, pardon me if I back away.

Dale's teams tailed off after Shaq and had a couple of poor seasons. That huge UK comeback (I was there ) may have been about the same time. Randy Livingston never panned out (injuries, not talent) so we never really got to see the Randy and Ronnie backcourt that would have been incredible.

Dale struggled, then the NCAA dropped the hammer on him. Enter Brady, who wasn't the salesman Dale was, and there you have it.

The crowds showed up for Brady during his big runs in 2000 and 2006/06. That stretch run in 2000 was great.

I think you can see there's still some interest. Anger is better than ambivalence from my perspective.

But when did go from where it was then to where it has been for most of the folks posting here?

From my memory interest started to wane significantly the 3rd of Dale's last 4 years which were all losing seasons and his last season was as bad attendance-wise as any of Brady or Trents year.

Along that same time baseball really started to take hold to where even today LSU is an anomaly where only a small handful of programs in America garner anywhere near the interest and passion and none equal.

Couple that with Brady and Trents boring style of ball and wild inconsistency it's never been quite what it was.

There were some consistently good crowds in SEC games in 2000 and this year I think stats will show bigger crowds than any year since. Even 2006 we only had a couple of really good crowds and 2009 even though we won the SEC going away, pretty disappointing attendance.

This is pretty accurate. LSU Basketball was a different kind of monster for quite some time though under Dale Brown. LSU held the NCAA single-game regular season attendance record for like 23 years and they still have like 3 out of the top 5 largest regular season crowds ever. They broke their own record a few times at the Dome with actual attendance and tickets sold (68,000+ against Notre Dame). It was more than any college or NBA game. It's pretty unbelievable to think about now.

College basketball was more exciting back then though. Players stayed a lot longer, so you had some great freaking teams and great games.

2006 was fun...but we had a top 5 NBA talent, SEC player of the year, 5 star hyped recruit, 2nd generation LSU basketball player, and a little lethal 3 point specialist. They played team ball with tons of energy and a small bench.

The talent left the program we have never came close to replicating any kind of run, 10 years of bad teams kills support especially when there is no promise or signs of improvement.

This is the most talent we have had since then and we are still looking at NIT unless we go on one hell of a run to close.

The crowds this season have been much larger than the crowds when Brady was coaching.

I was at the game in the Dome when Ricky Blanton made the buzzer beater to beat Georgetown. I mean the Dome was rocking.

I doubt LSU basketball would draw 6,000 in the Dome today vs the 60,000+ back then.

As a kid, LSU basketball was bigger than football (for me).

I remember being so pumped about Randy Livingston. Dude was supposed to be better than Jason Kidd. And Ronnie Henderson...Damn that team could have been legit.

Once Trent Johnson became coach, I lost interest and have not watched since. Johnny Jones has set the program back and will continue to reduce the relevancy of basketball at LSU.

You people make me chuckle. People have never lost interest. The LSU faithful as a whole are fair weather fans. Let the football and baseball teams become average again and the same damn thing will happen. Hell its already happening in football. Fans leaving early during every game. When you produce championship level teams everyone wants to be a fan. When you're average, they seldom come out and pack the house.

That's the best Response you got? That Bama leaves early.....let the football and baseball teams become average. Tiger rant will have a total meltdown.

After you stated this I just reminded you of a team named Bammer.

Not all who produce Championships want to stay until the 4th Q either.

But I agree with your pet other than that.
