Well for what ever it's worth he was routinely considered the sec coach on the hottest seat and maybe in the entire nation. I doubt alleva would have fired him but a bad 2018 season would have put wheels in motion and made 2019 win or gtfo

While that may be right I think it's hard to know what would have happened if Burrow passed. I mean, there are other quality QBs that transferred around the country around that time.

Lets say nothing else changed in 2018 except Burrow doesnt come so Brennan plays the year out, we likely struggle but then we land Hurts, Kelly Bryant, Justin Fields, etc. for 2019.

Basically, the same result could have happened in 2019 even without Burrow. A bad 2018 could have still resulted in landing Joe Brady and a top notch CFB QB.

none of those three would have allowed the same results.

You mean Justin McMillan

Hurts...maybe. And he likely would not be that great for us if O was HC

Kelly Bryant sucked.

Fields wasn't coming here.

Ed landed Burrow. Next question?

McMillan transferred so if nothing else changed, he would have not been at LSU. It would have been Brennan at QB.

Hurts, Bryant and Fields are just examples of QBs that transferred. The point is, the same result could have happened with another transfer QB in 2019.

The “what if” game is fun.

What if Covid and the social justice stuff never happened? What if we had a fully healthy team last year and this year with Myles at QB? What if Marcus Freeman didn’t get that last minute call from Chip Kelly?

He only transferred because of Burrow

With your game we have 1 QB

None of those guys were on Burrows level and Burrows potential created the need for Brady

You think O fires Slinger after a 5-win season and he hires a great OC as a lame duck HC?

the qb would have been mcmillan or brennan. by all accounts mcmillan won the job in the spring. it would have been really bad.

Thats pointless. Read the comment. Stating "if nothing else changed" in 2018 seems pretty clear.

Don't know and won't pretend to.

What I do know is that O has shown, repeatedly, that when he is on the hot seat, he fires staff and after 2018 I don't believe he would have been fired but the seat would have been hot. frick, it was hot with Burrow at the helm. I don't think '18 would have cost him his job but I do think a new OC would have been hired and I do think that could have been a widely unknown NFL analyst and I do think that could have resulted in a natty (obviously dependent on whether or not they landed another transfer QB).

Little change. We'd still be mediocre-bad

O is an idiot. Accept it. He was never good. He just got 1-outer-level lucky.

if brennen or someone else started would that season be like this season and Ed would have been fired earlier?

No way.

Just look at the defenses. Queen, Delpit, Chaisson, Fulton. This team doesn’t have guys like that on defense. And Brennan would have been throwing balls to Chase, Jetts and Marshall and handing off to CEH.

No way that’s a .500 team. Likely not a championship team (we needed Burrow for that) but 8 wins at a minimum.

OK so we have a bad, inexperienced, undeveloped, and injury-prone Brennan learning a bad offensive scheme with no backups

You don't want to go down that road.

He was on the hot seat in 2018 already. Have we forgotten 2017? Troy? Firing Canada and forcing our AD to eat millions? Almost losing Aranda again, leading to him having to be given HC money?

The only QB close to Burrow's level is Fields and he was never coming here, so how would we do this?

Sounds like you pretty much agree with me now since you're basically just repeating the same thing I said.

Cheers. Have a good one and enjoy the game.

Not sure why you, Pirate, and others like you can’t get it through your heads that COVID and the BLM summer were nation-wide events. They did not affect solely LSU.

Just so we’re clear:

- Ja’Marr Chase, Kary Vincent, Tyler Shelvin, Neil Farrell would have been added to the team.

- no opt out culture, Terrace Marshall stays the whole season

- we would have had time to develop new team leadership and build relationships with new coordinators

- more time to properly adjust from 3-4 to 4-3

- no rift between coaches and players

And you don’t think this changes anything? alright pal.

I’ve never said that they only affected LSU. But to say that nothing would be different is idiotic.
