I'm currently riding a train across the country and was thinking . . . what would it take to build a train platform near the old Alex Box Stadium? Also, build one in Metairie with free parking for game day. Then, ride the train from New Orleans to LSU, drink like a fish on the way, have a blast, go to the game, then ride the train home after the game. How cool would that be?

I hear that a train platform in Metairie or Kenner is already in the works. I don't know who owns the tracks that pass behind Alex Box Stadium, but I think it's a feasible option. Heck, I'd rather take the train than drive.

They did have preliminary plans in place to do something like that.

NOLA to LSU and back for game days.

Been saying this for years. If they ever manage to have train service between Baton Rouge and New Orleans. They have got to stop at LSU at least on game days.

Requirement: Must have a valid ticket for the day’s game to be able to purchase a round trip ticket.

Bobby Jindal turned down a Butt load of federal money that would have gotten it started. Probably would have had it by now.

would cost billions and never have the riders to justify the cost.

Probably worried that it would just transport crime back and forth to BR.

When you arrive at your destination anywhere from 8 to 12 hours after your scheduled arrival time, you will understand why personal train travel in 90% of the country is an unattainable concept.

The tracks are owned by freight lines and they have the right of way at all times.

Demand.

I’m thinking it would take lots and lots of demand that doesn’t presently exist.

Wouldn't withstand judicial review.

True, but Amtrak uses freight lines as it is now. AFAIK, there are very few dedicated passenger rails.

1500 passengers packed like sardines 3 hours to get there.

Not economically feasible.

No

The plan floated then and the plan still being floated is on a different set of train tracks. It was never going through LSU.

It was going along Perkins Road to where the Electric Depot is now.
