The Hallman years, the last two years of DiNardo, the 2008 season. I can't just bring it down to one season. Barring a major disaster, like big time NCAA violations, there is no reason LSU should ever have to go back to those days (especially the early 90's). They should never be forgotten, with the intention that they will never be repeated.

For me personally, it was the 1998 season. We had sky high expectations, averaged over 30 ppg, and finished the season 4-7 or 3-8........I can't remember. What I do remember is Kevin Faulk being interviewed after one of the late season games by WAFB, and breaking down and crying in the middle of the interview. I never forgot that. No other season that I've been a fan of LSU football hurt worse than that one. Faulk and Tyler deserved to go out better than that.....................especially since they both played so well that season.

No question it was 98 for me.
LSU really had an Elite squad coming back and most of the losses that year were just heartbreaking and devastating.
There were a lot of key injuries from what I recall and the defense just collapsed.
I never degraded the Tigers or questioned DiNardo's intelligence, etc... but 98 was just a mournful year - 99 was what it was and it was time to move on.
DiNardo brought the magic back and left the cupboards pretty well stocked for the best (10 years... and counting) period in Tiger History.
So we had to live through 98, 99 (and the many struggles that preceded those years) to get to here - the problem is so many don't appreciate what we have.
LSU SUFFERED from Coach-envy during the Bryant years and it led to packing Mac, Bo Reign's Plane and twenty years in the wilderness.
We appear to NOT learn from our past sins.

2003. Pins and fricking needles until the last 30 seconds of the BCSNCG.

You're blaming LSU fans for Bo Rein's plane going down?

2009
After 2008, I believed that the worst season by a defending champ in modern history was an anomaly and would be corrected. Going into 2009, there was hope that 08 was an aberration, and when we lost to Ole Miss, Alabama, and Florida in the same season for the second consecutive year, I realized it was not. Miles proclaimed the O Line would be the best since his arrival at LSU, it was his worst. That assessment was coming from a man who played the position in college and that position is arguably the weakest on the team.

1983, Guys....
We were coming off a 8-3-1 Orange Bowl season, and many thought LSU was a darkhorse for the National Title- and not just around here. A promising young QB, monster offense line, and one of the best backfields in LSU history- along with what promised to be a stingy defense.
AND THEN.....
We stumbled out of the gate with a 40-35 loss at home to Fla State (and only a late scoring flurry made it that close). After a sloppy win at Rice (24-10), we hammered highly ranked Washington 40-14. Things went south from there, and we wound up with an embarrassing 4-7 season. The axe fell on Stovall, and we all were left sitting around wondering what the hell happened to our "dream season"....

No, I'm saying LSU fans just weren't satisfied with Mac because he won a ton of games and bowls but just couldn't beat Bryant consistently (just like every other coach in the country, btw) so the fans wanted the 'fresh young hot commodity' - they demanded that we "help Mac pack", hired Bo Reign and the rest, as they say, is history.
Bo, may he rest in peace, never coached a game and the Tiger spent > twenty years on the coaching carousel (to the point that this year is the first time since Mac that we've had a coach enter his sixth year!) - Now, in some sick twisted 'those who don't learn from history are bound to repeat it' kind of way we are seriously fighting as a fan base over the job security of our most successful coach ever, simply because some have the perception that he doesn't measure up to Bear Saban.
It is a SAD day to be a Tiger FAN but I have a feeling this coach and this team will make it's own history and all of the Miles bashers will look as stupid as they are soon enough!
Geaux Tigers!!

All of Curley Hallman's. You could tell from day one that we were fricked when you say the look on his face on the sidelines at Georgia (his first game).

Winning the NC was great, but I have practically developed a heart condition with all the triple OT, last second passes, fake FG, ill-advised on side kick, clock management issues.
I enjoyed the Auburn game last year, GT bowl game and the VT tech game 3 years ago. They rest have been absolute torture.

I had Season Tickets during the Stovall years which were up and down. The Mike Archer years which were up and then down. The Hallman years which were down. Even though not all the games were great when I had Season Tickets I still enjoyed going to the games. We had great people that sit around us. Now I do not live in the U.S. and I do not get to go to any games anymore.

Can't really name one, maybe 1999. I became a fan around the 1986 season. I was 12. The Hallman years were rough for me though. And of course Dinardo's last year and a half. I really thought 1998 was going to be a big year and we lost it after dropping the GA game to Quincy Carter and Champ Bailey.

1987 had to be the toughest for me. We were on the brink of a possible NCAA Championship, with a opening win 17-3 against aTm. Then a 13-13 tie with tOSU in wk4 and then a late season 22-10 loss to Bama (who finished 7-5)ruined it
. We finished 10-1-1 and Auburn (9-1-2) eventually won the SEC and we got stuck with the Gator Bowl instead of the Sugar Bowl.
Miami finished #1 undefeated
FSU finished #2 (11-1) only losing to Miami
OU finished #3 (11-1) with its only loss to Miami
Syracuse finished #4 (11-0-1) tie with Auburn in Sugar Bowl
LSU finished #5

I see what you're getting at but he did make some interesting points. For example, everyone called for JoePa's head a few years ago when they struggled to win 4 games, but now he has won 11 for two straight years. Now, historically speaking Miles is no JoePa, but he is arguably one of the most successful LSU football coaches ever.
The point is, we have no idea what is in store for LSU this year, we have the talent to win a lot of games, but will we? If we don't, I can't help but believe it is coaching. I just hope we can turn it around and win a bunch more games over the next few years, no matter who the coach is!
ETA: '98 for me: I was young but remember it vividly, after that season I thought it was a bad thing for a DB to jump up to try to swat the ball because LSU knocked it into the opponents hands SO many times.

2007 was painful because of all the close games. In retrospect it was great, but the games themselves were all nail biters. I like seasons like this one better when expectations are so low.
