re: What Oregon has tried to hide in the Cliff Harris incident. DT confirmed

If every law that was broken by a college football player was enforced, there would be no games this Fall. That said, Officer Stallworth was wrong to let Cliff Harris and Darron Thomas go. If they didn't play football, Officer Stallworth would have cuffed them and had the car towed. No one seems to care about that, though. Average citizens should be outraged, instead the discussion devolves into finger pointing about past possible infractions of other programs. If you can carry that rock, you are above the law.

So true!

Not a student? That adds questions. Any previous connection to the players?
Cliff checks her fluid levels and helps her make dinner on occasion.

Might just be the difference in LEA between Or and La. I work extensively with police in my line of work and this is not an uncommon occurence. Around here they only tow you if your drunk or being a dick when they talk to you. Cliff was very polite in his interactions with police.

Is marijuana legal in Oregon? Why didn't Officer Stallworth do a vehicle search? By his own words, he had probable cause. Maybe the "something" that they drove to Portland to pick-up (mentioned by the lady who rented the car) was drugs. Maybe they had over 2 grams of a controlled substance, which would be intent to distribute. This was very poor police work and if you think Officer Stallworth's effort was typical, you are beyond naive.

This is a flat out pretentious statement. Cliff is suspended and DT didn't do anything.
Truth hurts doesn't it? Face the facts, your coach is gonna look the other way. You say, but DT didn't do anything wrong. He is a scholarship football player, the freakin QB of the team and he doesn't have the sense to stay away from people that are driving 118MPH and smoking weed? More is expected of him, and he has done nothing to show that he can handle the added responsibility. He is supposed to be a leader for the team.
You LSU guys simply do not have a clue. You guys are like Parana when you smell blood in the water.
Do you even freaking know what DT was doing in the car with Cliffy? He got picked up at the Airport in Portland from flying back from ESPN on the East Coast because he chose to take his week off working out with the team and not getting to go home to Houston and also flew out to ESPN's headquarters for a day. And he does not own a car as he is too poor to afford one. We don't buy our players cars like Bama. I have seen DT walking home on the street right after games. So he probably was just grateful someone picked him up at the airport and to get a lift back 2.5 hours to Eugene. So if one of the two others smoked a little on the way up there, or even down, who cares, it was not DT who did. And as far as speeding or smoking weed, dude, it was at almost 4am. He might of been asleep while Cliffy was speeding. And as you could tell, and as I said months ago, there was hardly anyone elts on the road that late at night. It's not like there was any traffic then. And if DT was not sleeping, what is he supposed to do? Demand Cliffy pull over so he can walk home on the Freeway- 80 miles more? And who would want to call someone at 4am to wake them up and come get ya? Chances are, he was just greatful someone was giving him a ride. And he probably was tired from flying all that same day back from NY. He probably was sleeping then during that time.
As I said. DT does not have a car. So he has to bum a ride when he can. Who cares if this was the third time as a passenger when someone was speeding and or pulled over. He was not driving. That is guilt by association.
Saying Chip Kelly is not hard on his guys is a joke. He is known to be very strict. He kicked Masoli off the team did he not? And guess who took him in? Yep, good old SEC for ya. And Cliff is missing the big LSU game for his actions. Personally I think he should not have to, but oh well Kelly does and has stated numerous times CLiffy will not be playing vs LSU.
As far as complaining about the Oregon State Police officer who pulled Cliffy over, well, if you do not like his actions or our State laws and how we do things over here it is simple: do not visit here. Oregon might have a relaxed attitude to weed and relaxed attitude to arresting people for traffic stuff, but I think LA has its own problems such as being known as the most Corrupt State politically in the nation. The level of corrupts down in LA in your State Government is so filthy I hardly think it wise for guys in LA to hold an opinion negative of another State's driving infraction policies.
Lastly, Chip already knew every single detail of this situation back in May. Not one thing about this news story is new other then there was a video to this and you all are just now seeing it. That is all. Your wish of seeing DT suspended along with Cliffy is not going to happen. And our monster Middle Linebacker might even get to play in this game.
Have a good day.

I read that, but we never hear what that supervisor said, for all we know he could be a UO alum and is letting them off easy for being football players.
That is laughable. Those two cops surly were not UO alum because they didn't even know who Masoli was. The State Cop only had heard of the Cliff Harris name and already had been told they lived in Eugene and were college students. It didn't take a rocket scientist to figure out he was a UO football player. And funny how for many mins he did not even recognize DT. Even after hearing DT's name he did not know who he was at first. I assure you, had he been a UO alum he surly would of know DT just by eye site and easily remembered Masoli.

Of course, OSP called the supervisor to deliberate. If you read the story, he even asks the supervisor what would he do if they weren't football players. John Canzano is one of our worst critics and he even thinks that no suspension is warranted.
To bad we couldnt hear the response. There is this one tid bit I find interesting though........
quote:
Stallsworth then talks to someone on a cell phone and tells them he has Cliff Harris and Darron Thomas pulled over, then ends the call.
After several minutes, Stallsworth gets back on a cell phone with an unknown party and says dispatch wants to send him somewhere but he “can’t let a 118 go” and tells the caller U of O football player Cliff Harris is in the car. “Do you know who’s with him? Darron Thomas,” he tells the caller.
Apparently dispatch wanted to sweep this under the rug somehow but to the officers credit he "can't let a 118 go". Sounded like he was wrestling with doing just enough as opposed to nothing at all.
Also, how in the world do you not administer a FST the moment you suspect the driver is under the influence? Let alone wait nearly an hour. And if the fact they were football players had no affect on the officers decisions, why is he calling everyone on Gods green earth by cell phone to alert them he has them stopped......asking them what he should do? Are we to believe he calls his super every time he makes a traffic stop?

It's sketchy for sure, but that just reflects poorly on OSP no UO necessarily.

Frankly, what Kelly does should depend on how he thinks Oregon is going to fare in the Lyles mess. If he thinks Oregon is going to get a hand slap (allowing him to remain coach) then he needs to take some action to clean things up because Oregon's reputation is getting pretty tarnished by this string of incidents. He should suspend everyone in the car for a game just to send a message. He can always make an excuse that for DT the LSU game has special meaning and allow him to postpone his game suspension. On the otherhand, if he thinks this Lyles mess is going to cost him his job he should say "frick it", reinstate everyone, and try to win it all before he gets booted.
Chip Kelly can do whatever he wishes as the Head Coach. I sure am glad some random LSU fan in LA is not the joint head coach of another team in another State. And BTW, Chip is going no where. Our people adore him too much. He would have to murder someone to get fired at UO. Remember UO does not have those that canablise our own over here. We support our own staff and players at UO, even if they do poorly at times. Our support never wavers at UO.

The legality in this case is not the issue here. Members of the Oregon team were traveling down a highway at 120 mph smoking weed, and that is just dangerous. I'm sorry, but at 120 you need to concentrate and weed doesn't help. They were a danger to themselves and others and the coach should make a point. The people in the car were friends, so they could have talked Harris out of driving so fast, and they could have talked him out of smoking weed. So they were all complicit. All of the passengers should be suspended for a game. I don't care that everything took place in permissible Oregon. This is a question of responsibility, and they weren't.
They smoked it hours earlier and they easily passed a field check to see if impaired, and was perfect at the test. Or did you not see the video? Ie.(they were not high at the time, but had smoked it way earlier and the smell was still in the air...)

You know who said the same sort of thing not to long ago? Ohio State about Jim Tressel... What's Jim Tressel doing now Duck? Oh right he got his arse fired. But then i remember that OSU has some tradition, something UO sorely lacks.
