One of his best friends said, "He won the Natty, got big money, got rid of his wife and lost himself."

Winning a championship was the best and worst thing to happen to him. He said many times he learned not to micromanage from his failure at Ole Miss. He won the championship at LSU with great coaches he trusted. After that so many players and coaches left along with COVID and BLM toxicity, he reverted back to over controlling game strategy. He also had a historically bad Bo Pelini hire that no one knew would be as bad as it was. I think O could have survived any one of those things but not all of them together.
That said, I love Coach O because he loved LSU and gave us the best season of all time. The shite he gets on here is pathetic.

I think Hamma1122 said best. He quit after 2019 season championship.
Honestly, now that the ashes have settled, i’m kind of glad he did.
After the goodwill 2019 bought him, he could have limped us into mediocrity with 8-4 seasons, an occasional win against Bama (let’s not forget we could have beat them last year.) and we’d still be languishing on a slowly sinking ship while other programs passed us by.
No, he HAD to crash and burn to get him out after, let’s be honest, the best season an LSU fan could hope for. So I’ll give him his deserved props for 2019. Like it or not, he did put together that team and made a lot of the hires and the recruits.
Better a rocket that takes us to the top and burns out bright than one that never gets there.
And now, because he crashed and burned, we have Coach Kelly who looks extremely promising as a legacy coach.
So, I’ll take it. Better a year of ecstasy followed by a couple of extremely weird years of sucking followed by promise,
Than the never quite good enough purgatory we went through with Miles.

Yes. And you could argue that they’re the deviants while O’s mindset is healthier and more fulfilling.
*for the coach as a person. The maniacs are better for the program.
