What is so wrong about expecting execellence...

...from LSU Football now?
I am so tired of all these so called 'long time fans' using the argument that fans should be satisfied now with 8-9 wins every year because LSU used to be so terrible before Saban. They say that we should be happy with having a winning record or being 8-4, 9-3 etc every year.
I understand this point, but why is it so wrong to expect excellence, especially after 2 national titles? Do we not always strive to be excellent in our personal and work lives? In our careers, do we just say oh well I am a mid-level employee now, thats better than being in an entry level position so I should be satisfied? No, you always strive to be the best, to make it to the top, to be the CEO.
LSU fans have a right to not want to just 'settle.' Especially since LSU is now demanding fans to put up enormous amounts of money to see the games, shouldn't the fans expect to get the product they pay for - a championship caliber team? Is Les Miles really earning the exorbitant amount of money he is being paid right now (~$3.75 million)?
I'm not saying this is the end of LSU Football as we know it, and yes I realize that some fans are a little over the top with their expectations. I don't expect to win a national title every year, but with the money being poured into this program, the new facilities, TAF, recruiting, etc. I think its reasonable to expect to be in contention for an SEC/National title every year.
I still love LSU Football and athletics as a whole, and I will continue to support them no matter what.

Nothing. The issue is the inability to define excellence in a reasonable way.

Nothing wrong with high expectations.
Something wrong with wanting to fire current coach.
Something wrong with wanting to fire current coach.

If we win out, we will be 10-2. We will have contended for a position in the national championship match, and we came up short to the #1 and #2 teams.
To do that with a young quarterback, a poor offensive line, and a new DC would be pretty amazing. What is not excellent about that?
If your idea of excellence is being rated #1 or #2 every year and being in the national championship game every year, then you need to get with an analyst and try to regain touch with reality.
I'm not defending Miles or anyone else. I'm just looking at the facts.

I'm not pro-firing Les. However, if you believe the program is trending towards mediocrity, then what must be done inevitably must be done immediately.

11-2 and top 5 is excellence IMO. It would be, again, one of LSU's best seasons and Miles' 4th top 5 finish in his 5 years at LSU. It is still a very attainable goal

A realistic expectation of excellence and a delusional expectation of excellence are two very different things.
Some of our fans have the latter.
Some of our fans have the latter.

As I said in another thread, older/experienced QBs produced better teams this decade. I'll be concerned next year if we only win 8 or so games with an experienced QB. I am chalking up our problems last and this year to inexperienced QBs. We will not have that excuse next year.

is a current record of 8-2 mediocre?
I think the majority of fans would like to see the team play better but the "fire the coach" or "buyout the coach" crowd are not living in reality.
I've heard the current coach more than once say that just contending at LSU is not enough. If that is the mind-set of the staff and players than whats the problem?
It seems like many on here only watch LSU football games. Bad decisions are made in every football game- sometimes by the so-called genius coaches (If you didn't see the end of the NFL Sunday night game)

There are 5 other schools in our conference with these same expectations.
We are in a position to achieve a Top 5 finish. We should not be an underdog again this season
To think this team was in serious contention to win the MNC this year is quite delusional.
Let's see how they can close out the season before declaring it a failure.

this is the only conclusion i can come up with myself.
seems like the complaints "fans" have about our coaching staff applies to coaches all over the league. yet, its only Les that does these things in their eyes.

There's a difference between expecting excellence and expecting perfection.
Most everyone that want Miles gone expects perfection and there's no such thing.
These are the same fans with the jilted lover syndrome and would do and say anything to have Saban back.

Love you people who already giving us wins over Ole Miss, Arkansas, and a bowl victory. Did you see the step backwards we took against La Tech? And don't give me this inexperienced QB crap again. How long are you people gonna hold on to that?
We could not stop La Tech's run game. Did you see Ole Miss' run game? We can't get to the QB, have you seen Mallet throw the ball when he has time?

they were contenders. Prior to losing to Florida and even after that they were contenders. And they gave uf and alabama all they could handle.
People need to get a grip. Lsu is still top tier and on it's way to another 10+ win season. It isn't realistic to think you team will win a championship each year. To think that is "quite delusional."

Yes it is. We played 2 good teams and got handled twice.

It's more realistic than predicting that we'll never beat bama or UF ever again.

If Jefferson, Scott, and Peterson don't get hurt LSU wins that game.
