Bench press is beneficial when combined wih lower body explosion......if your arse doesn't get you there, then the chest never has a chance. Thus, it is supplementary to, say, cleans and squats. It does have benefit however. Testing for stength in cleans and squats would be MUCH riskier b/c they involve the back.

I ask myself this question: Last August I repped out 225 for 34 reps (fat and lazy now)....does that mean I could've beat Big Herm one on one? uhhh, no fricking way.....he'd kill me. BP reps "70% busted".

Dorsey had a horrible workout
hell, most of our DL are entirely too big

On the other hand, Clayton, Devery Henderson, Landry, Bowe, Craig Davis, Addai, and D Byrd all showed their speed at the combine.

Clayton: 4.71
Bowe: 4.6

just to make that clear

who was the last stud player we had in workouts? we had laron, who i'm weary to use as an example. other than that we've had some issues. and our guys have not lifted well and a handful were called out for being weak as rookies

Dorsey got 50 tackles as a rookie DT. Weak my arse.

that's what's being discussed

I'm not complaining about having a faster team. You are complaining about having a team that's won two National Championships. So you are the one who needs to explain what is wrong with that.

So, what is wrong with having a team that's won two national championships in the last 6 years?

NO on complained about Chad L. strenght or explosiveness while he was at LSU.

but he lifted like a Safety at the combine

we have a history of our guys lifting well below what their positions generally ask for

and Glenn was injured before the season as well though he did come back and play he played on the cheifs no one could have succeeded on that def.

but he also had a horrible workout

and for the record, i think moffit is a fine S&C coach and one of the best in the country

but wtf am i supposed to do with comments like, "tommy moffit is the most valuable coach in college football"

to be fair, one of those came after a 2-loss season

those 2 losses? in OT, when moffit's regime is supposed to really show

Guys who ran faster than expected:
Landry
Gay
Hester
Buster Davis
Jamarcus Russell
Chevis Jackson

That's just thinking for 10 seconds off the top of my head. EVERY team in college football has more players that disappoint in their 40 times than guys that surprise. Just like a player is more likely to disappoint with their height and weight.

Yeah, the best teams in the NFL love the numbers........Please

Go read Patriot Reigns by Holley and you'll come to realize that Bill B. rarely weights combine numbers when evaluating his picks.

I think we've established:

1) Moffitt does a good job helping LSU win games
2) Moffitt does not develop Combine workout wonders
3) SFP knows way more about past combine stats than he should
4) LSU fans sure get pissy when someone questions their own
5) This discussion will never be settled, it will just eventually die.

How "explosive" was he really though? Do we know that if he runs a 4.5 40 at the combine, Moffit has failed him? Hard to say.
