I keep seeing ranters and commentators alike saying LSU is not using Brandon Harris' skill set. What is his skill set and why did we recruit him?

He has pretty perfect physical attributes. 6'3" 215 lbs, fast, athletic, very strong arm, etc.

He's also a very intelligent guy off the field.

In theory he should be a GREAT QB.

But he is a bit of a headcase and panics in the game. Not everyone is born with the right disposition to be a QB.

He is adequately mobile and has a big arm

We recruited him for those reasons and he was one of the top QBs in the country coming out of HS

At this point I'm not sure what it is, but I'm damn sure what it isn't.

I have a feeling that Brandon Harris would fricking kill it for a guy like Jimbo Fisher.

-Ability to run in an offense that doesn't run the QB
-Huge arm talent in an offense that doesn't spread the field.

When I've seen him sling it, he has a pretty strong arm and can throw it on a rope.

But, like all of his predecessors save the one who was NFL caliber, he plays scared as frick and it shows.

If ONE of your QBs plays scared as frick, he might be a head case. If 4 out of the last 5 do.........that's probably not the player.

This is true too.

Our QBs have absolutely zero confidence because the coaches don't help them build it. Look at other schools who throw the ball well. Its very obvious the coaching staff helps them build the confidence to go out there and sling it.

he's got a strong arm and is fairly mobile. He's not a good pocket passer, so we should develop an offense that doesn't always require pocket passes. And put more WRs out there to put more pressure on the DBs.

Run designed rollouts, bootlegs, with a run/pass option. Screens, draws, QB draws. We saw Jimbo roll out the FSU freshman QB against Ole Miss and a couple times he scrambled for 20 yards. Not only does that move the chains, but it affects how the defense rushes the QB.

And of course, be unpredictable in play calling to keep the defense guessing. Even a great QB would struggle on obvious passing downs.

Physical talent can make you stand out in high school but after high school you need mental toughness to succeed at the next level especially at QB. Harris is too emotional to be an consistent effective QB at this level.

No doubt. He has the things you can't really coach. He could have been sculpted into a lethal collegiate QB.

Maybe so, but sometimes don't pan out to be very good at the next level. He just seems very immature for a Jr.
