There are 6 active college coach's that have won National Championships.
Nick Saban
Mack Brown
Les Miles
Jimbo Fisher
Dabo Swinney
Ed Oregon

Three of those coaches won National Championships at LSU !!
An Actually the last 3 coaches at LSU have won National Championships. The other two Jimbo and Mack both coached at LSU and went on to win national championships at Fla.St. and Texas. So that is 5 out of 6 of the active National champions coach"s that have won National Championships. 80% !!!! So to continue LSU has 4 national championships. Played in 5 national championships games and won 4 ! 3 championships in last 20 yrs
No other team in college football besides Alabama has won that many championships in last 20 yrs. Therefore, I submit LSU is a blue blood !!

A blue blood is determined by the woke’s at ESPN. They love teams that used to be good, they ignore facts. It’s how media is taught these days.

A blue blood is someone who was good in the 1900’s. In the year 3000, it will be teams that were good in the 2000’s.

I would agree that it is an old term. However there have been many post across Tiger Rant that were listing who the Blue bloods were in college football. So I do believe there are modern blue bloods and you would have to include LSU !! Just wondering how others view blue bloods ??

Blue bloods are what mediocre programs call themselves to still feel relevant

You have to look at it from a historical perspective. While Texas and Michigan haven’t been very good recently, they’re both historically good.

For what my opinion is worth, I’d say we are not, for this reason. In my opinion, Blue Blood programs are those that a great many CFB fans consider to have sustainability over the long term. Everyone has to define long term for themselves. I would say 30 + years. LSU has show sustainability over the last 20 years, so ask me again in 10 years.

I listed the teams that I consider Blue Bloods. Tennessee, GA and Florida have all had periods of success, but I think they all come up short from a sustainability standpoint. If we have the kind of success over the next ten years that we have enjoyed since 2000, it would be hard to argue against classifying us as a Blue Blood program using my arbitrary definition. Again, it’s just my opinion.

A blue blood is a program that can (could) have success without even trying. Combination of kids who just want to play for the institution, regardless of the coaches, facilities, etc. Prototypical example is Notre Dame, which could field a dominant team despite the fact it had outdated facilities and played in a dumpy 40K seat stadium at a time that most teams had at least 75K seats.

Money and culture has obliterated the concept of a blue blood college football team. Can't keep up? You won't get the recruits, no matter who you are or ever were.

LSU is definitely the blue blood program of Louisiana (Tulane's long standing joke makes whatever standing they once had irrelevant). LSU is as much of a blue blood as any SEC team, but I think our national historical reputation is more one of mystique - Grey Ghost and all that - and I kind of prefer that anyway, because as I said, money has rendered "blue blood" status meaningless.
