hope this doesn't turn into a common retort with O if he's still here in 3-4 season "Yeah, but no way Miles wins that game either!"
it will. just like that same poster asked where are these 1st or 2nd year starters winning the sec when it's happened a bunch in the last decade.
The goal posts will always be moved for our current coach.

It's laughable to see this,"We have no talent" bullshite claim. we have had great recruiting classes the last 4 years. it's incredible how lsu went from," as much talent as anyone" to " week we have to give time to get talent"
It's utter bullshite. there is enough talent on this team to win 10 games. if we win 8 games it will be a failure on the coaches part.
Well hasn't one of the common arguments about Miles been that he recruits so well and has so much talent then he doesn't win anything with it?

They all become the same thread...
This whole well you can't replace.....
Yet over the past 10 seasons LSU was still expecting to win 10+ games doing just that, replacing a ton of talent each year.
Yes some years hit harder than others but not matter what LSU was replacing some key players. It is really irrelevant considering the way LSU has recruited, they have talent, they have depth.
It needs to perform on the field, I don't care about an "ugly" win, it is still a win. A "pretty" loss is still a loss. At the end of the year all that matters is W/L record. Coach O walked into a very talented club with a lot of key pieces ready for him, he needs to produce right away.

He has, but has totally botched OL recuitment and QB development. Coach O is tasked with rebuilding that as well as trying to win in the SEC with an over turned roster.
The whole having high expectations thing is fine, but year 1 needs some leeway. You guys sit here and talk about meeting old expectations as if this program was not trending downward when Miles got fired. There are things that need to be fixed going forward. You hope to do that on the fly but that is not realistic. While Les Miles has seemingly set the bar "high" based on his overall resume', he has made it unrealistic for coach O to take off running

yes.
It's always been....
" 10 win seasons arent anything to tout".
"any idiot can win 10 games at lsu"
" any real coach would win 11-12 games at lsu"
It's just laughable. who knew that all it would take for lsu to stop being one of the most talented teams in cfb was to fire miles
Posted on 7/13/17 at 1:36 pm to Rickdaddy4188
Ok.... you act like we didn't lose any talent from a year ago.... we have a lot of talent , sure but you always bring up the excuse that LSU wasn't as good in 2014 and 2015 because of the talent lost.... will you use the same excuse for O?????

that's not true.
this isnt the nfl
The only teams that beat BAMA are the ones with elite passing QB's. Period.

LOL, elite? After this post, is there really any need to read your others?
quote:
cam newton
aj macarron
Flynn
Jalen hurts
Perhaps I should have said freshman and sophomore QBs. AJ, Flyn were in those systems 3-4 years. Newton was as Junior and played 2 years before Auburn. He was not a true first year starter.
Again, trying to argue that first or second year players can come in and win in the LSU is a common thing is just ridiculous. Replacing a Senior starter with a 3rd year sophomore or junior is what we should be doing .
So, in all honesty, "it doesn't really ever happen"

bullshite.
we have had 1 recruiting class outside the top 4 in the last 4 years.
2017 -- LSU 8
2016 -- LSU 5
2015 -- LSU 8
Not quite the numbers you quoted. Additionally just because we have good classes doesn't mean that you are appropriately addressing needs. We still have problems at LB and QB, and will have a problem at RB next year.

I meant 1st and 2nd year players, as in freshman and sophomore.
And since it has happened a bunch.....name them?

You said that doesnt apply to lsu bevause of how we recruit. You said a decent coach wouldve won with that 2014 talent. so now are you admitting you were wrong about 2014 & 2015?
also we return more starters than we did in 2014. 2014 we started the 2nd most freshmen in cfb but you said a better coach couldve won with that talent. it's fricking laughable

There is no question that Les was lacking and the program, in certain areas, was in decline.
BUT and it's a big BUT O sold himself to Alleva and Alleva sold O to Tiger fans as the guy who could come in a make immediate impact because he had been here and would maintain most of the staff.
Add to that O was the Recruiting coordinator and you cant totally blame holes on the OL, LB and QB on Les. O deserves some as the Recruiting Coordinator.
Bottom line and most here are dancing around the issue, when you fire a coach because he wasn't getting the job done his successor should have greater expectations nor lesser than the guy who was fired.
Makes no difference if it's Les to O at LSU or any other coach and his replacement at any other program.
The issue here is O idolatry by a segment of our fan base who will defend O no matter what because he was born here and speaks with an accent.
Hopefully that hero worship will subside and he will be judged on his record without a cavalcade of excuses if things don't geaux well.

And he did! He saved our recruiting class, first & foremost.
Still, he will be limited this season just as any other coach would have been considering the losses to the NFL. Fans need to realize that. Then in Year 2, it's a full go. No excuses. Year 1 should be seen as a transition year.

247 has the composite rankings as:

2015: 5
2014: 2
Either way, you aren't helping your argument that LSU doesn't have talent.

Lol no not 12-0 bit but better than 9 wins. Yes.

The expectation should be win the SEC. if not, why fire Miles? If O doesn't win the SEC this year or next, he should be gone along with Alleva. O's record as a head coach makes him very suspect and his leash should be ultra short.
Posted on 7/13/17 at 2:05 pm to GeauxBayouBengals
Because Miles hadn't won the west since 2011, much less the SEC. his expectation became finishing 4th in the West
Posted on 7/13/17 at 2:07 pm to Lester Earl
Lol there are always gonna be excuses. Early entrants, off field, clearing house, kicked off team, injuries etc.
Next year it will be a no experience or low experience QB and lack of a true stud at RB when Guice leaves.
It's always something.
