1998 in Little Rock.... Nutt orders a totally unnecessary pass at the end of the game to further embarrass LSU, 41-14. When Clint Stoerner came off the field after the touchdown Nutt and Stoerner were laughing their asses off and partying like it was 1999.

And then Ro and Reed were really laughing their asses off in 1999.

Think about where Nutt, Stoerner and Miles are today and smile.

Exactly, why not score on them? He'd do it to you in a heart beat.

I would be more humiliated that other coach felt so sorry for me that he had to kneel the ball 4 times with 5 minutes left on the 1 yard line.

You don't remember Ole Miss kneeling the ball against LSU in 2008 in Tiger Stadium instead of punching in another touchdown?

+1

I would like to think this was Miles saying to Nutt, 'Wow, you're pathetic'

What Miles did was the most cold-blooded, but completely defensible parting shot one could ever take. It was brilliant.

Had LSU scored again it would not have even registered. It would have only been 59. Downing the ball drew greater attention to the game, to Nutt's situation, and to the fact that Miles showed mercy on him and thus further humiliating him. He did this all by not only not looking like a dick, but being lauded for sportsmanship. Brilliant.

This, along with the Florida jump pass are freaking awesome. Miles never forgets.

It's like when Mr. Miyagi was in position to deliver the killing blow, drew back for it and fired, only to pull the blow at the last minute and beep his opponent's nose.

That's what Miles did to Houston Nutt.

That was Kevin Faulk's final game. I was always glad that Dinardo gave him a few snaps at QB. I get teary-eyed just thinking about it.

In 1999(?), Auburn led LSU 34-7 LATE in the game with the ball on the LSU goal line. Instead of taking a knee, the ball was given to Rudi Johnson who scored and set off an uproar of disdain from the LSU faithful who accused Tubberville of running up the score.

So, how does a coach with superior talent on the opponent's 1 yard line NOT Score?

Handoff?
If LSU handed off to ANY of their running backs on the Ole Miss 1 yard line they would have scored.

That would have been no different than the actions upon which many fans base their hatred of Tommy Tubberville.

Pass?
Throw a completion and you score and are accused of running up the score.
Throw 4 intentional incompletions and you are accused of rubbing their noses in it!

The situation was a NO WIN situation. If they score some will say they were rubbing it in, if they take the only action to not score they are rubbing it in.

Given the choice of acting like Tubberville or not, I will take not every time.

LSU fans who are critical of Miles' actions obviously didn't see the 1999 game or have very short memories, becasue there was not a single Tiger fan that I spoke to after that game that wasn't royally pissed.

Hey Coach - Thanks for showing some class, even though it was in an unorthodox manner.

Actually what Miles did was just further my beliefe that he is a genius. What is the #1 play where injuries occur? Kickoff. If the game is no longer in question, and you had an opportunity to avoid the most perilous play in football, the smart thing to do would be just what Miles did. It was a HUGE bonus that it was humiliating to Nutt. But I think Miles probably did it to avoid any risk of injury. GENIUS!!!

I agree if it were less than 2 mins. I don't think we would have gotten flack for running up the middle with all backups with more than 5 mins to play.

Miles may have genuinely been for sportsmanship but see my earlier post for Miles' brilliance.

Because in 08 when Nutt had a chance to do it to miles, he layed off and kneeled it
