re: What happened to Lange's control?

Obviously Coach Dunn, even with his decades of coaching MLB pitchers, watching Lang pitch every day, studying hrs of film on his bull pen work, has no clue as to what is going on & is just ignoring the product. BTW, Lang has given up 1 walk this season after last nite, so, yea, his control sucks.

Okay, he was off last night.
Still looked pretty sharp

Most of Lange's curveballs in Freshman year weren't actual strikes but because they kept swinging he kept throwing it in the dirt. Teams figured out to completely lay off of it. Lot easier for the batter when they know not to swing. Lange now knows he has to throw some of the breaking pitches for actual strikes. So yes they will hit some of them but he will have a lot of people guessing.

quote:I hope he's off like that in every game he pitches this season. 12 K's with 6 of them being 3 pitch strikeouts. ETA: He only pitched 6 innings so he averaged 2 strikeouts an inning.
Okay, he was off last night.
What the heck is wrong with you people?

Apparently you've forgotten everything about baseball.....

If you can't tell his breaking ball hasn't been as good as his fros year than you are dumb.
do you know that colleges track pitchers and have other ways (videos, etc) to scout opposing pitchers (at least their top starters and closers)?
more batters are making adjustments. they are laying off the wicked curve that ends in the dirt. this makes Lange adjust. last year it took him a while and it affected his control also.

I'll take 1ER 2BB 12K in 6 as an off nite

He had no control again tonight.

Can't tell with the shitty tv angle.

It's not his breaking ball though. His breaking ball is best in the dirt, but he can't locate his fastball to get ahead in counts.
People have tried to tell you this, but apparently you're not very intelligent and can't comprehend.

the camera angle killed it

It wasn't his breaking he couldn't locate, it was his fastball. Kept putting it in the dirt. And the ump kept squeezing him to boot

Very difficult strike zone (for both pitchers) last night. Lang appeared to get frustrated (also) and that didn't help his cause.

You're wasting your time.

Batters are laying off the breaking balls in the dirt. That's the difference between the last 2 seasons and his first
