We were in every game we played that year, including Florida - we just happened to lose pretty much every one in the last 2 minutes.

Funny you say that about Master P. Didn't alot of the players in 98-99 get that IDGAF attitude and start using drugs and such? Could have been rumors.

Yup. I'm not even joking. There were wide rumors at the time P was paying players to throw the games. Considering the appalling, almost comical defensive showings every week it was believable. So many passes would be completed in tight coverage where it seemed the DB only had to raise an arm.

Also it was said P got banned from campus about that same time, and conspicuously I didn't see him playing basketball at the REC suddenly.

Which is why I laugh when I hear that th DL and the DBS are the most important in a defense.

As if defenses were okay with just having three aimless players out there. Wafj.

Yeah, that was a debacle, we could go to a bowl with a win @ home; Hogs had 2 backs each over the century mark and doubled the score on us!

the honest truth is that there were several players that accepted money to perform poorly. Compare those games to the spreads. I will not mention specific names, but there were plenty of rumors, some inaccurate, some accurate, as to who took cash.

1998 had to be one the most bizarre LSU seasons ever.

Beating Auburn on the road was cool but they ended up being exposed as dog shite the rest of the year. Didn't Bowden get fired that year?

Every week during Dinardo's show he'd get asked about the D scheme and why we looked like the bad news bears and every week he'd casually say "I don't think it's the scheme". It was infuriating and was worse than the Co-DC 08 deal. That team just couldn't catch a break. My final memory of that season was Nall hitting Abram Booty in the face mask with a pass that he drooped and losing at ND. That pretty much summed it up. They mailed it in against Arkansas.

Those 97 and 98 teams had some talent.

I heard that there were guys hanging around Master
p, Snoop Dogg and that crew. Those guys would play pick up basketball. One day Randy Moss showed up with them.

Can someone explain the X's and O's of the drop LB? I was too busy getting poison ivy adventuring in the woods like Bear Grylls and eating grass to pay attention to anything else. I was only 7 years old in the 98 season.

Never saw Moss but I did see Ron Mercer play a game with them at the rec.

I was a student in 1998 and sat thru every home game. I'm positive some DBs were on the take. The passes they would give up we're just ridic.

The Ole Miss QB (Kent Austin?) threw about 500 take-the-snap-stand-up-and-dink passes of 3-6 yards each.

We only lost 5 of those games by a combined 19 points. Ark and miss st beat us bad but that's back in the day when miss st had damn good defenses.

Lou tipper and GD stubbornness with sticking his neck out and defending his coordinators.

Lsu destroyed miss state in 98. I mean it was absolute domination. It was the one game where it all seemed to come together

pretty accurate.
Everyone likes to pile on Dunson, but it wasn't his fault as much as the scheme. He tried pretty damn hard and got nothing but flak from the fans.
I seem to remember missing a lot of kicks that season... Lots of close losses. Remember some talking heads calling us the best 4-7 team ever. Whatever that is worth.
