Wouldn't even consider recruiting Joe Burrow while he was HC at Nebraska... even though Burrow's brothers and dad played at Nebraska.

Burrow was in the 2015 recruiting class, not sure you can lay that one at Pelini's feet. If they had seen JoeyB it would have been during his junior year of HS and maybe some of his Senior year. Perhaps joeyB wasnt good enough when they saw him, but got much better his senior year. Pelini got fired in Nov, Riley came in and JoeyB got lost in the shuffle.

Their expectations were way out of line with reality

Burrow was breaking Ohio HS passing records in 2012, 2013, and 2014. Would have been a one minute phone call (that Pelini never made) to sign Joe Burrow in any of those years.

B/c Nebraska thought they were an elite program, which should be winning 10+ games every year and challenging for the NC on a regular basis.

They were wrong.

This, all of this. Nebraska was still relevant in the Big 10 with Pelini.

I think there’s something to be said for Nebraska’s consistency under Pelini in two different conferences. Nebraska won 9 or 10 games every year Pelini was coach in both the Big 12 and B1G.

Nebraska fans have been among the most delusional. After Tom Osborne, no other Husker head coach has really come close to contending for national titles.

As a result, coaches like Solich and Pellini win 8-10 games each season and they are gone in just a few years.

Burrow was in the Class of 2015
Pelini was fired in Nov 2014, before signing day
Pelini’s mistake could have been fixed, Riley chose not to pursue Burrow
Pelini was gone for over two months when Burrow signed with OSU
