Seriously. Katrina? They were a 2-point favorite going into the game. Georgia was picked 3rd in the SEC East that year.

You know Katrina, big hurricane, caused devestation, new orleans evacuated to Baton Rouge. It was a big deal. And yes he does sound like a whiney baby. "They didn't show our highlight on ESPN." Get over it

I think that he is a good coach but not as good as the media pundits make him out to be.

As a combination coach, recruiter, and program-builder, I don't think he takes a back seat to anyone in the SEC and if he does, it's not by much. He has won the SEC and had elite/top 5 national finishes. I don't think you can ask more than that. I love that the Tigers have won a couple of NC's lately, but there is usually some luck invovled just in getting to the game.

I do think Richt went overboard in making the case for the Dawgs being in the NC game when his team had not won the SEC and had been beaten decisively by SECCG participant TN.

Fwiw, I thought his case for UGA being in the MNC game was horrible. I am a big proponent of the BCS adding a conference champions only rule. But he was just lobbying for his team, and he didn't carry on with it beyond one pitch. He never criticized the decision after it was made. (The Michael Adams (UGA President) whining was far, far worse.)

I think he's one of the better coaches in the country.

Richt has beaten LSU pretty handily in the last 2 games, including one as an underdog in an SECC game

I never quite got some of the reasoning I read for us being favorites in the 05 game. "Justin Vincent ran for 200 yds in 03". Yeah, and he ran for like 200 total after.

There is no question in my mind that he is a top tier coach in the SEC.

Yeah... and the team went 11-1 into the SECC game.

Katrina as an excuse for that loss is really weak.

You should probably go read the transcript of the press conference that came from. It was all a big joke between Richt and the reporters. He clearly didn't really care and was pretty much making fun of the question and concern over it.

I think he is a very good recruiter and a successful CEO. He represents the University well, minus the silly whining last year.

Negatives-UGA player rapsheets give the program an outlaw rep.

RICHT has never really won anything,is not considered a big game coach, but yaps like they are LSU or Florida. They are not. They could be, but it hasn't happened yet.

The Richt whining last year was BEYOND ludicrous. It hurt Richt's reputation tremendously.

Not many coaches in the SEC have done less with so many talented athletes....

the king of this is phil fulmer however

as many have said he appears to be very whiny (getting on espn because they dont have his rb hurdling a D2 player on top plays) and he really pissed off tiger town with his shenanigans last year around the national title game

he also has major discipline issues

I think that he is a good coach, but not great. He always manage to shite stomped in one big game every year, which is inexcusable given the amazing talent that he has on that roster. Until he stops doing that he will never be more than good/above average.

as a person i can't stand him. He reminds me of a more hypocritical and whiny Bobby Bowden. His jesus stuff wears on me as his players get arrested on a routine basis. ALso, he really needs to stop crying to he media. It's embarrassing. I had dinner with a UGA grad assistant/strength coach last year. Nice guy, but the naive mentality he had towards the players was creepy..."they are all good kids, they love jesus, coach richt has a zero tolerance policy, etc...".

Mark Richt = overrated

He's consistently called a top tier coach but rarely even wins the SEC East, much less the SEC Championship. As long as he's been at UGA and as many good players as he gets and should get, UGA seems to underacheive. They are a great team and always post a decent record, but if I was an UGA fan I'd be a little disappointed (think Texas fans prior to VY winning the mNC). FWIW & IMHO.

The reasoning was mainly that LSU was 11-1 while Georgia was a 10-2 team that was picked to finish 3rd in the SEC East going into the season. It was only a 2-point line though so it was pretty much a toss up.

You go through something like that, have 0 weeks off and then say it is a weak excuse. Come on.

Richt is a top level coach in the SEC but lets not kid ourselves that Katrina had no bearing on that game.

I think you're overrating UGA's talent during Richt's time, fwiw. It's been very good... but far from unbeatable. Thanks to a rash of injuries, busts, and other problems, we have only had an even average OL for 3-4 of Richt's seasons. In several other seasons ('03, '06, '07, '08), it has been bottom rung of the SEC bad.

In over 70 years of SEC Football LSU has had 11 seasons where they could claim the title of SEC Champions. I think everyone would agree that each and every one of those is special and an accomplishment. SEC Championships are a symbol of excellence.

Why the fuch would you degrade such accomplishments by claiming that a man who has won 2 such titles (SEC Champs in 02 and 05) in 7 years hasn't "won anything"?

anyone who followed LSU knew we were not going to win that game. That was the Katrina year when our schedule was moved around. That was at the tail end of at least 10 games (i think), with no bye weeks, we were worn down and banged up, and the game was in your backyard. At that point in time we were gassed. I was just hoping it would be close.
