No, according to your link it says that they CAN test for it.
I don't pretend to know exactly which means of testing the athletic department employs for a given athlete.
Sir, you are just not correct. This policy existed prior to state making synthetics illegal.
LSU specifically listed synthetic weed on the banned list and on the list of chemicals that they test for.
LSU is not trying to play "gotcha" with their athletes. The policy and the briefings including the specific mention of synthetic weed was to let the players know "Kids don't be fooled by how this is marketed" If you use we test for it and there are tests (despite what you may believe) than can burn you.
Do you really think they would mention it so prominently if they did not test for it?
They were trying to help the kids out and warn them.
I don't know if these kids popped a positive test or not, but if one reads the LSU policy on testing and on infractions and how they are handled it is very clear that at the very least after one does pop for the first one, one must sign acknowledging the failed test, go to counseling sessions and submit to additional random testing.
Further synthetic weed is/was a growing issue. Thus some states have made illegal and the feds classification. It is naive for you suggest that LSU is not testing for it as part of its normal random tests.
That was the point you made initially, that you were skeptical because there was not a urine test. Which is patently wrong. LSU went to great lengths to mention synthetic weed in the policy it is just totally naive to think they don't test for it. They clearly state it among the protocols they DO test for.

drug test for synthetic weed
requires blood test...which makes me skeptical about these reports.
urine GC will confirm it if specifically tested (gas chromatograph)

On the local sports talk show today they said it was a fecal test. Kinda hard to get someone else's shite to pass the test.

Wrong. Any substance's metabolites can be identified in the urine using GCMS. Most tests are only "qualitative" in the sense that the first pass test only uses the "dipstick" method. When you come up positive for something in the first, qualitative, cheaper urine screen, they send the "split" sample (the other bottle they pour the other half of your 60 CC of pee in to) off to determine what the exact chemical structure of the metabolites are to definitively rule out a false-positive.
